Goalkeeper training reimagined. 1. Set the culture (after years of intentionality) 2. Set the problem. 3. Set the tone for exploration. 4. Figure how how/when to best support the players to find solution(s) that can be effective for them. 5. Enjoy it.

Each week I'm going to highlight one underappreciated moment by goalkeepers in @NWSL play. Brief thread 🧵.
This week we'll talk about the fake pass and how it helps progress the ball forward, which is the aim of possession for a gk.

With the @NWSL approaching this weekend, I'll be highlighting some intriguing play from some of world's best gks this week. Brief thread.
Last season, I was wildly impressed with @weareangelcity Didi Haracic, mainly her improvements in possession.

1/2 The emblem on your chest does(n't) dis/qualify you as a great coach. The level of competition. The trophies. The achievements. None of it makes you a great coach. It's how you treat people. It's how you draw out the best in others. Coaching is other-centered.

Revolutionary here. The best way to be a great youth coach: 1. Check your ego. 2. Be kind. 3. Prioritize development > winning. 4. Be kind. 5. Be kind.

Wow #Alisson!
Great composure to not over commit as #Alli approached then class decision making & footwork to get across & smother at #Kane’s feet!
He goes as soon as the ball is squared!
My model predicts this shot would beat a #PremierLeague GK 77% of the time!

Don't judge a coach on:
▪Qualification👨🏻🎓❌
▪Club they work for🏟❌
▪Playing history⚽️❌
Judge them on:
▪Connection with players🤝🏻✅
▪Smiles on player's faces😁✅
▪What others say about them🗣✅

The flaws, biases and illusions at the root of your emotional problems force you to compensate around them. But that only works temporarily. Resolve/eliminate them and you can dive deeper into the action without the risk of a big mistakes.

“When you look at performance in sport, everyone wants to be physically at the top of their game and breaking limits, whereas when you look at mental health, everyone just wants to cope. We’re missing a big opportunity there"
