The White House is signaling support for racists who believe that UT students from the Dallas suburbs and US citizens who happen to be brown do not belong at a college football game or really in America, period. That's what this is about. Erick Erickson wrote the other day about how guys like Charles Haywood are at peace with or even actively promoting extremism on the right. That's true. But here's why the problem is much, much bigger than any single individual or institution. The GOP and the right are all inextricably tied up with white supremacist ideology now. This is the mainstream. If you vote Republican, if you support Trump or Vance, you are supporting a movement that sees itself as being at war with minorities and whites who do not harbor the right's insane views. The alternatives are to be in denial about this reality--as a lot of conservatives are--or to insist on fighting a losing rearguard action against it, or to do what Karl Rove is doing and vote against it.
