The concept of Lex being intelligent enough to skip multiple grades and even attend college early but Lionel wanted his son to both be a genius AND normal somehow so he prevented him from advancing in school too quickly even though he wanted Lex to outperform literally everyone and be an egotistical show off. But also not TOO much of a show off. So no matter what Lex cannot win. He’s stuck in classes with kids well below his league playing teacher’s pet in all of his classes because he’s easily picked out as the top of the class and much more mature than the other children when he should be in college before even graduating high school. All because Lionel didn’t want his son to “stand out TOO much” despite being a genius kid with no friends wasting time in classes he doesn’t need to be in Lionel wants son to shine so he can show off how great his genes are, but no one is allowed to cast a shadow over Lionel himself
