On this day in 1984, 66-year-old Eleanor Bumpurs, facing eviction from her NYCHA apartment in the Bronx, was killed by an NYPD officer. Her death led to changes in how police respond to people in crisis. #EleanorBumpurs #SayHerName

Early voting has begun! 🗳️ Vote for @KathyHochul on Row D, the @NYWFP Working Families Party line! Kathy has worked w us to advance significant protections for our immigrant neighbors & delivered an incredible investment to build Jackson Heights’ first-ever community center!
We’re thrilled to have @votejgr in our corner! She’s supporting @KathyHochul’s reelection because Governor Hochul understands what our communities need to thrive.

BREAKING NEWS: I introduced legislation to expand beach and pool season. As climate change lengthens our summers, we need to ensure people can enjoy the beach safely. My legislation does just that and will keep the fun times 🌊 going until October. secretnyc.co/nyc-beach-seaso…

The selective outrage from ppl like @MeghanMcCain @tedcruz who have sadly succumb to “doom” scrolling is laughable. Meanwhile they are not outraged at the fact that their beloved right wing tool, Rudy Giuliani, lying about the toxins in the air post 9/11. Selective outrage.

After 47 long days on the picket line, we are thrilled to announce a contract for our members at the Fairfield Inn and Four Points Times Square! Workers who started this fight nearly 4 years ago will receive more than $50,000 in back pay each, immediate wage increases of between $10-15 per hour, free family health care, retirement benefits and more. We are so grateful for the thousands of members, elected officials, and supporters who stood with us through 100 degree weather, rain storms, and wildfire smoke to make this victory possible!

Over 50,000 Haitian healthcare workers with TPS status are being put on leave from their jobs in hospitals, nursing homes & home care since the Trump admin ended TPS for Haiti. NYSNA President Nancy Hagans was on CNN to demand the federal government reinstate TPS for Haiti!

Both houses of the Legislature passed a bill to help more community and minority-owned banks qualify for state deposits to support banking services in underserved communities. Thank you @JSandersNYC and @KhaleelAnderson for working with my office on this important legislation. 🔗osc.ny.gov/press/releases/20…

I am especially grateful to Francesco’s mother, Diana Cochran, whose courage and advocacy turned unimaginable loss into meaningful change. I also thank Assemblymember @khaleelanderson and the broad coalition of advocates and organizations who fought tirelessly for this bill.

Young people are always told what not to do. But what should you do? Did you know that most public libraries have a Nintendo Switch to use? That parks show free movies at night? That there's a map of pickup basketball games? Nyc.gov/summer is a map of free and affordable things to do this summer that we made just for you. Because public programs mean nothing if you don't know how to access them.

I couldn’t agree more with my Republican colleagues. President Trump should not be spending $800k of taxpayer monies via salaries to golf in some of the fanciest golf facilities money can buy thehill.com/opinion/5239509-…
$250,000 of taxpayer dollars better come with an invite or a slice of cake for every New Yorker Glad to see Assembly Democrats are focused on the real issues: wedding security for a billionaire.

Grocery prices are soaring. Putting a fresh vegetable in your shopping cart costs 11.5% more this year than it did last year. We need not accept rising costs as forces outside our control. Government can bring them down. Here in New York City, City Hall will do just that.
Grocery prices in the U.S. soared faster in April than any month in nearly four years, driving up the cost of everything from frankfurters to tomatoes to cupcakes, according to government data. abcnews.link/xPaGhxl

I have seen the concerning footage of Council Member Chi Ossé’s arrest earlier today and am in touch with Commissioner Tisch about the nature of the arrest. It is a pleasure to work alongside Council Member Ossé, a leader in his community and a partner in building a safer and more affordable New York City. I am grateful he is out of custody.
