AO3 writers are very quick to come after readers but if this outage showed one thing it is actually...how much genuine DISDAIN and LACK OF RESPECT some AO3 writers feel towards the original creators of the works they use for their fanfics.

i stopped reading and engaging with fanfic completely because of people who act like this. as an artist who regularly "contributes" to fandom thus earning myself the right to have an opinion, people like you are what is actively killing fandom and making it as hostile as possible

a lot of ao3 writers couldn't make it as published authors bcs this is not how you talk about the people who literally keep your profession/hobby alive. what a rude way to speak about readers. so nasty.

I’d actually argue the opposite. Fandom doesn’t need fanfic or fanart. It needs the source material. People can build community engaging with the source material, fan works are just a plus. I fear you’ve misunderstood what a fandom is

screaming crying throwing up you do not "work for free" if to don't enjoy creating there are thousands of other hobbies you can pick up
you can also choose not to use ao3 that is something you can exercise your free will to do

it’s so obvious to me who only discovered fandom in the last few years, bc anyone who’s been here for over a decade will join me in saying that preserving fanworks through places like google drive (with the credit preserved, as it always is on epubs) is VITAL
