An award-winning ESPN producer resigned after 24 years over the network's embrace of sports betting: “I’m not going to work for a gambling company and have blood on my hands.” cjr.org/the-interview/nicole…

This game was accidentally set to free play at BarCade and I would play it for hours and hours! I got 9/10 high scores, but some Jedi master had the top spot and I couldn't beat him to save my life.
It’s 1983 and you're playing Star Wars at the arcades for the first time, after watching the movies. Words cannot describe it. For perspective: other popular games around that time were Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Qbert, Joust, and BurgerTime... all great in their own way. But Star Wars literally catapulted you into a whole new universe. The graphics were nuts, and so were the digitized voices and sound effects straight from the movie (“Use the Force, Luke!”). To top it all off, John Williams’s iconic score delivered maximum nerd chills. This game will forever be linked to one of the best arcade eras ever.

Gov. Newsom has signed AB 2319, establishing CA’s first standalone post-production tax incentive. The bill, authored by Burbank Democrat Nick Schultz, aims to keep visual effects, scoring and other post-production work from leaving CA for states offering generous tax credits. While Chinese AI models may not be the most advanced, their applications are the most widespread. Figures released by Chinese officials on Thursday indicate that 430,000 micro-dramas were launched online in China between January and August of this year—thirteen times the total for the entire previous year—with AI-generated dramas accounting for over 90% of the total. The scale of such AI application is staggering.

You know times are tough when you get arrested for not paying child support when you’re working as an extra!

Say what you want about him, but you really have to respect the Arte Moreno tenure in Anaheim Was he a good owner? No. Was he a good guy? Nope. Was he good at hiring people? God no. Did he manage to not get investigated by the FBI for bribing the Anaheim mayor? Somehow, also no

Looks like a major Paramount IP is being taken back by its creator. According to Puck, Mike Judge let Paramount know he will reclaim the rights to Beavis and Butt-Head in 2027 thanks to a U.S. termination clause that lets creators gain back their copyrights after 35 years.

Dolly Parton made the best chicken and dumplings I ever ate. On lunch break she would knock on my trailer door with melt-in-your-mouth dumplings, biscuits, gravy, green beans.Every day it was a southern feast. I had never seen an actor actually use the cooking facilities in their trailer before but she had it all going on. I still have Dolly’s Tupperware…

I heard a second hand story about Dolly Parton on set from someone. The production sent a PA to tell her that the production was delayed and they weren’t ready for her yet. The PA was very sheepish and apologetic for wasting her time. Dolly said

In 1978, TV series The Incredible Hulk reused footage from Steven Spielberg’s Duel, replacing Dennis Weaver with their own actors. Spielberg went nuts and added a clause to future contracts: “No one can cannibalise my films and regurgitate them into some other show.”

Has anyone harmed below the line workers in Hollywood more than the WGA?
The Writers Guild of America has fired back at Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison after he threatened to pull Paramount out of California: “By threatening to leave the state because it doesn’t want the government to enforce the law, Paramount further proves the danger of its outsized power over the industry and what that will mean for writers and the creative community. This type of behavior is precisely why the merger should be blocked.” variety.com/2026/film/news/w…

Won’t be long till the same effect is seen in the film industry.
Of the many, many books that predicted some dystopian effects of AI, few or none of them, to my knowledge, predicted that one of AI's first major effects would be to disrupt the book industry itself. But that's exactly what seems to be happening. - The number of AI-written books with any sales has grown by a factor of *19* since 2003 - Books with “substantial AI text” are making more money with every passing year - Authors who don’t write with AI are earning less per book in almost every genre

This article is incredible. America is so rich that its idiots out-earn average and somewhat above-average smarts Britons.
