A fantastic way to start the year as Saptet self-help group successfully had their first harvest today,of over 80 bags and are set to have their second harvest soon.A very encouraging journey towards socio-eonomic empowerment amongst the Ogiek community.
Saptet self-help group now looks at expanding their potato Farming business and open up a seed distribution store.Aside from that they are environmental enthusiasts and will be starting a tree nursery initiative too.

The Ogiek community today attended the implementation hearing at the African Court, alongside friends. The African Court granted the Kenyan government 3 months to make their submissions and revert back to court in February, 2025.

A historic achievement!
We reached a great agreement by consensus around Article 8J, securing three major achievements at #COP16Colombia:
✅ Creation of the subsidiary body under Article 8J for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.
✅ Recognition of Afro-descendant peoples as custodians of biodiversity in the Convention.
✅ Establishment of the work program for these communities until 2030.
With this achievement, the value of the traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants, and local communities is recognized, settling a historic 26-year debt in the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
