Psychology is truly fascinating. Anyone who says it’s overrated hasn’t managed a desk.
Every day I see traders with no edge happily turn up and punt away, with zero fear. Then someone comes along with an actual, demonstrable edge, one that outperforms all of them, yet he’s constantly scared to execute.

How to get confident in trading
"It's not a discipline problem, it's a confidence problem, guys. Discipline is the most overused word in trading. It's never a discipline problem, it's a confidence problem, because you haven't put in enough effort to build your confidence.
If you study enough examples of a certain breakout or a certain setup, you will build confidence. And I bet, guys, how many of you have spent 500 hours studying one specific setup, like thousands of historical examples? Be honest. There's maybe, I don't know, 5% of you.
The rest of you haven't put in any effort to build confidence, and that's why these things happen. You have no confidence holding for a big move, you get shaken out on one downtick. These things happen all the time. You have no confidence because you haven't built it.
You've got to combine studying and trading. Well, what do most people do? All they do is put on some random trades, because they haven't internalized the setups yet, and they all do these random things. They promise to use the 10-day moving average as a trailing stop, and then one downtick happens and they're out.
We see it daily, people who are struggling to follow the rules. Happens to me too. Happens to me too, but it happens less.
You've got to do both. You've got to study hard, you've got to out-study most people, and you've got to combine it with experience. If you make no trades and just focus on theory, you're not going to be successful."

US equity market breadth is rapidly improving:
The proportion of S&P 500 stocks trading above their 50-day moving average surged +5 percentage points on Friday, to 61%, the highest reading since mid-August.
Since the October 1st intraday low, this figure has more than tripled.
Additionally, the proportion of S&P 500 stocks trading above their 200-day moving average rose +3 percentage points on Friday, to 57%, the most since September 9th.
Over the last 3 weeks, this figure has risen +17 percentage points.
This comes despite the S&P 500 remaining roughly unchanged over the same period.
This also ranks among the 3 sharpest improvements in market breadth over the last 3 years.
On Thursday alone, 335 S&P 500 stocks finished higher, despite the index declining -1.2% on that day.
The market is strengthening beneath the surface.

Soros Fund Management launched when George Soros was 43. Julian Robertson didn’t start Tiger until he was 48. Jim Simons was 50 when he started the Medallion fund. By pretty much any measure, these three belong in the top 5 or 10 best hedge fund managers ever. Things to keep in mind if you haven’t hit your stride by ~30.

Dan Zanger Gave Back 75% of His Gains
…but NOT when the bubble burst
Since publishing my deep dive, @DanZanger has often cropped up in conversation.
I keep repeating 3 points:
1⃣ The misunderstandings around Dan, especially about his supposed ‘overnight’ success and the true causes of his 75% drawdown.
2⃣ The importance of digging into his story, as it gives you insight into the purpose of his rules and why he had such difficulty internalising certain lessons.
3⃣ My deep dive process — and how Dan being less easy to study than other ‘big name’ traders actually benefits you.
Given the importance of, in particular, the story behind the 75% drawdown, I’ve gone into more detail in this follow-up article (now published):

Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

The big news last week was of course the sharp drawdown in high yield data center bonds and what that might mean for the broader AI buildout. I have been eyeing the price analog between the AI boom today and the internet boom-turned-bust in 1998-2000 and have been comforted by the fact that earnings are so strong today that equity valuations are falling instead of rising. We can see that below. 🧵(1/3)

Common mistake I see people make when looking for charts in equities that are holding up relatively well in comparison to the indices. They will look for names technically still in uptrends while the market is still in flux/selling off, then those names give back days/weeks of..
