More Llamaween fun! Today's team call had one agenda item: costumes. 🎃 Our learning for the day: the best part isn't any one costume. It's that everyone committed to the bit. Happy Halloween from all of us at Leadtail 💚

Bonus points if you can guess who's behind "Beans, beans, the magical fruit." 🫘

Llamaween continues! Our annual Pumpkin Carving Contest IS BACK! 🎃 The rivalry gets heated every year (and we can't even blame the candles). Vote for this year's gourd of honor by commenting the number you think should take home the prize. 🏆 And you can bet the carver will be gloating about this for a full year. 💚

The best part of last night's dinner in Menlo Park was the conversation, both what Rich Schwerin brought to the table and where the group took it. Rich's talk gave us a lot to work with: how content marketing has changed in the age of AI and where it's going, what SEO, AEO, GEO, and LLM optimization look like beyond getting cited, how much guardrails help a team's efficiency and efficacy, and why the model you choose matters in the tools arms race. Then everyone weighed in with their own experiences, and why humans are needed more than ever. It's always good to catch up with Tom Treanor, Christina Ellwood, Kevin Sugarman, Erick Mott, Kathleen Schaub, Aiden Mathieu, Viola N., Patti Sanchez, and Clark Newby. Thanks to everyone for the questions, the stories, and the honest opinions.

The CMO = Why AI = How
The CMO of 2028 doesn't approve work. They set the context the work is built on. Brand. Customers. Strategy. What we learned last quarter. Get that right and sign-off becomes a formality.

In case you were wondering... 🤖 update
X ALGORITHM UPDATE 🚨 X just showed the real ranking math. A like is almost worthless. Copying the link is worth ~30 likes. A reply is worth ~7–8 likes. A single report is worth −355 likes. Your post has 48 hours before the algorithm ghosts it. Replies only reach people who already follow you. Bookmarks do nothing. Do this instead:
• Post when you can reply in the first 2 hours • Write something people want to quote or DM • Reply to people who follow you Stop optimizing for hearts. Start optimizing for shares and real conversation. What’s the highest-value post you’ve seen recently?

We were following you @jeffbullas in 2009 and we're still here following you now. Hopefully other social media peers come back, too. 🤞🏻
Most of my social media peers from 2009 have gone quiet on X. They called it toxic and walked away. I almost did too. Then I learned the old rules were dead. Who you follow matters less now than what you post about. I came back at 69 and went from 337 to 35,000 views a day. The room emptied. That's why I stayed.

We agree with you @BridgetMWillard! Think all the B2B marketers left when @elonmusk took over Twitter. It's time to come back to X. 🙌🏻
I'm not going to lie, it blows my mind that so many FinTech/RegTech products don't have a presence on X. If for no other reason than for SEO: indexed by Google, teaching the LLMs.

the rebrand of startup content marketing as new media must be studied

Don't disagree with @Gartner_inc : "AIM shifts marketing from organizing around campaigns and channels to modular experience components and governed intelligence layers." But not sure I'd characterize the Adaptive Intelligence stage as "AI as an influencer". 🤔
Forward-looking CMOs are already rethinking how marketing creates value in an AI-driven world. Marketing functions that remain organized around campaigns, channels and manual coordination will struggle to scale agentic AI safely and effectively. Agree! Good list and yes, B2B founders need to be (or at least think like) marketers. 🙌🏻
Distribution is the only moat left in B2B SaaS. If you're a B2B company founder, here's exactly what you should be focusing on👇 1. AI search (get recommended by ChatGPT before buyers Google you) 2. Multichannel (LinkedIn creates demand, Reddit builds trust, Google gets the credit) 3. Day one shortlists (get picked before buyers even talk to sales) 4. Reddit (earn trust in communities that hate being sold to) 5. Content distribution (make your best ideas impossible to miss) 6. Founder-led media (turn your expertise into an audience that buys) 7. AI citations (find out WHY ChatGPT cites your competitors) 8. Zero-click discovery (influence buyers who never visit your site) 9. AI content filtering (surface that single useful insight buried in 100 AI posts) 10. Dark social (capture buying signals hidden in Slack, DMs & private groups) 11. Niche creators (reach 5K relevant buyers instead of chasing 500K impressions) 12. Research syndication (turn one original report into months of exposure) 13. AI buying agents (get shortlisted when AI compares vendors for buyers) 14. Customer advocacy (turn happy customers into your strongest referrals) 15. Search-to-social (show up across Google, Reddit, YouTube & AI answers) 16. Category positioning (stand out when every SaaS competitor sounds identical) 17. Content repurposing (turn forgotten webinars & podcasts into fresh assets) 18. Outcome-based content (optimize for pipeline, demos & revenue, not post counts) 19. Distribution OS (connect research, creation, publishing & measurement in one system) 20. Branded demand (make buyers search for YOUR company, not just your category)

Agree! Founders, execs, business owners 👇🏻
A company page is useful for official updates, but it can’t share the experiences and opinions of the people behind the business. Founders, executives, and employees can add the context that makes those updates more meaningful. Alicia Teltz explores more: inc.com/alicia-teltz/linkedi…

In case you were wondering... 🤔
Startup founders are asking me: which social media platform should I prioritize? It depends… what stage is your company at? The job of your social presence changes as the company grows, and the platform should follow the job. Make sense? 🤔

Google still holds 93% of global search share and AI engines are training directly on that data. 👀 For B2B startups, that means high quality content, visuals, diagrams, and video built for searches that now run 16 to 17 words long. Erin Cresta of Sema4 breaks it all down on Tomorrow's Best Practices Today. 👉 bit.ly/3LIt3cs

Good strategy is good strategy, regardless of the size of your company. 💯 Courtney Beasley-Widmer, VP of Marketing at Highwire, learned that firsthand as an early employee at Walker Sands, and watching it grow into a multi-office agency.
