My twitter will always be a personal blog for my random thoughts, for my own amusement, like 10-20 times a day If you take it more seriously than that, that's on you

Wow Marie Gluesenkamp Perez must have some pretty impressive internal polling to be doing this outside of her R+3 district five days before the polls close:

The funniest possible October surprise:
BREAKING: Trump has just cancelled all rallies this weekend, per NBC News. Those include his Saturday rally in Kansas, and his Sunday rally in Dubuque, Iowa, just 5 days before the midterms. Only Daytona Beach tomorrow remains, with no events announced for Monday.

Nader’s Raiders helped completely decimate the administrative state, and for what? It completely dismantled our ability to fight climate change, and left decades of regulatory disfunction

Apparently WMATA is really bad at properly filing their tickets and DC's ticket adjudication body is super understaffed, so to save time they just started treating WMATA-issued tickets as categorically invalid. Fare evasion tickets aren't collected, evasion is basically legal.

Israel’s coalition politics after an election is like one of those LSAT questions: A can only sit next to C and D, if B is next to D then A and E cannot sit in the same row; F and G are always together in the same row. H and I always sit in the same row as D. E and G have to be in the middle

FYI, we're making a patch to FLIPR in MT-Sen to reflect the weird nature of the race in Montana that we don't think FLIPR was handling quite right. I guess I'll just put this in one long tweet. Montana features a Republican (Kurt Alme), a Democrat (Alani Bankhead) and a Democratic-leaning independent (Seth Bodnar) who would presumably caucus with the Democrats. De facto, it should be handled more like Alaska, where there can be more than one candidate from the same party on the ballot and FLIPR adjusts for this in various ways. This has two major implications: 1. Bodnar and Bankhead's vote should tend to be inversely correlated. In other words, as he rises she'll fall, and vice versa. 2. The various adjustments FLIPR Classic and Deluxe make, i.e. for fundamentals and expert ratings, need to be shared between Bankhead and Bodnar as "co-Democrats" whereas before they were only being applied to Bankhead (and Alme). While #1 has somewhat ambiguous effects, change #2 will hurt Bodnar. FLIPR was confused why Bankhead was *so* far behind Alme, and therefore FLIPR Classic was adjusting her vote upward and Alme's downward as it applied the fundamentals while leaving Bodnar's vote unchanged. But the reason is that the D- and D-leaning vote is basically split between Bankhead and Bodnar, deflating her vote. With the patch, Bodnar's projected vote won't change much, but because Alme was too low (and Bankhead too high), he now has a higher target to aim at. We expect the race to shift from "Lean R" to "Likely R" as a result of the patch. It's definitely an interesting race and Bodnar has some chances and has been gaining in the polls, bringing him within striking distance, but the tightening polls mean Montana needed more scrutiny than back when Bodnar was way behind. We think this handling is more internally consistent with the precedent we'd already built for those multi-way Alaska races. We'll do a new run of FLIPR later tonight that reflects the update.

Anthropic will make ~1,000 employees worth +$100m at $2 trillion market cap. There's ~11,000 Americans with $100m in investable assets. So something like 1 in 12 Americans with $100m (liquid) will be from Anthropic. If you add in Openai, maybe 1 in 7.

The coding interview is dead, at least for my team at Anthropic. I've seen enough to know that it no longer provides signal. I removed it from loops this month. I have a spicy, optimistic take - I think there's an opportunity for junior engineers: felixrieseberg.com/hunger-be…
