Cool new tool for mRNA delivery to the brain! Congrats, Ritchie and Krisco!
We used tissue lipidomics to identify nervonoyl sphingomyelin (C24:1) as a helper lipid that improves LNP mRNA delivery to the brain via increased cholesterol-dependent uptake. Led by Krisco Cheung, now out in @CellBiomat: doi.org/10.1016/j.celbio.202…

Congratulations, @KarlDeisseroth! Proud mentee🎉
Congratulations to our first #NobelPrize laureate of 2026 🎉 Early this morning Karl Deisseroth found out he was awarded this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. He seems very happy with the news!

Honored to join the Sloan fellow community. Big thanks to my mentors, @MIT_Picower, and my lab for the support. We are recruiting new team members to join us: fanlab.mit.edu/openings/ Please reach out if you are interested in all-optical physiology, plasticity, or learning/memory.
Congratulations @LinlinZFan, a new @SloanFoundation research fellow! Fan uses innovative optical tools to investigate how connections change among neurons during memory formation. The fellowship will help her give the technology a big upgrade picower.mit.edu/news/sloan-f… #Neuroscience

Congratulations to our Human Neural Circuitry team; bit.ly/4dEyX7Z publishes today in Science! This was the hardest challenge of my career, but one of the most rewarding, after years of rebuilding– & for myself, expanding my inpatient neuropsychiatry work to the service of basic discovery: med.stanford.edu/news/all-ne… I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with the amazing lead authors Isaac Kauvar @ikauvar, Ethan Richman, and Tony Liu @liutony66, and with equally brilliant faculty colleagues in our HNC program: Carolyn Rodriguez @CRodriguezMDPhD, Paul Nuyujukian, and Vivek Buch @VivekBuchMD, along with many other key collaborators spanning hospital and laboratory. nitter.cf/KarlDeisseroth/status/…
The next gen of HNC is already on the way! Left to right: @SamVesuna (MD PhD psychiatry resident), @ikauvar (PhD neuroengineer), @chibyanada (program manager extraordinaire), & @liutony66 (bioengineering PhD student). New/improved in all ways, with better album cover picture too.

And it’s out! Our lab’s very first paper is published today @naturemethods! Our calcium-activated split-TurboID (CaST) can biochemically tag activated neurons within 10 minutes, enabling a molecular handle on functionally relevant cell ensembles: tinyurl.com/ddyecxze
Excited to share the first paper from our lab! tinyurl.com/5n7fvwvh We engineered a new kind of time-gated calcium integrator, CaST, that can rapidly and non-invasively tag activated neurons in vivo with a small, biochemical handle. What makes this tool special and unique? 1/6

congratulations @LinlinZFan & team... tracking natural *inhibitory* synaptic plasticity in mammals! w/ the very same designed-opsin pair that we had generated earlier to track *excitatory* plasticity in behaving mice (our structure-guided channelrhodopsin bC1C2TG & QuasAr6a) cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092…
Excited to share our new work @ScienceMagazine-we demonstrated all-optical interrogation of inhibitory synaptic transmission and plasticity during behavior! Kudos to our wonderful collaborators @BarnaDudok, @SolteszLab, and of course, my amazing mentor and advisor @KarlDeisseroth

DSI is a form of synaptic plasticity mediated by endocannabinoids (eCBs). With @LinlinZFan, we demonstrated in vivo that place cell activity triggers eCB signals affecting GABAergic inputs; and that cannabinoid receptors modulate place cell tuning. science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

Dear colleagues – we have an opening for a postdoctoral associate in the lab to study the molecular machinery of synaptic transmission and mechanisms by which neuronal subtypes differentially control synaptic strength. If you know of someone interested, have them email me. Thanks
