What a difference a day made.
Democracy in action in LB #Bromley #LocalElection2022 as voters reduced the Tories' majority from 40 to 14, the lowest margin since the 1998 election, heralding a more equitable, more democratic, more representative #BromleyCouncil. 🧵1/

Paris - unlike London - has had the powers to regulate dockless e-bikes.
Walking around, you can really see how regulations result in orderly parking.
Government is giving UK cities similar powers so we can ensure bikes are parked as well as these in future.

It’s always inspiring seeing what other cities do to make streets safer.
In Paris, it’s impossible not to notice the ubiquitous zebra crossings that help give pedestrian priority on side roads.
I’m delighted we’re working with @transportgovuk to start trialing these in London.

Cargo bikes in London are the new normal.
Usage is up 126% since 2022 & major logistics companies are looking to expand their fleets - cutting emissions & congestion and saving money.
Great visiting London-based manufacturer Minimal to see their operation & try out a new model.

Oxford Street has long been the nation’s high street.
On Monday 26 October, it’ll go permanently traffic-free and pave the way for a greener, more welcoming street with new opportunities for retail and leisure.

A new chapter for London’s buses.
I’m launching Buses for London with @TfL - the capital’s publicly owned bus company. Starting with Route 6 in 2027, we’ll reinvest profits into better services, safer journeys and a greener network.

The UK Road Safety Strategy adopts a Safe System approach with a target of a 65% reduction in KSIs by 2035. With lower urban/village 20mph implicit within a Safe System culture they will become the norm in the UK. #20splenty is making our places fit for the 21st century.

This is a Street Scar. They’re common across many British high streets & side streets, particularly visible when the street surface is stone or setts as here. They exist due to an error in legislation which has frozen the maximum fine on utility firms who don’t do their job….

Most cities treat bike infrastructure as an afterthought, squeezing it into the margins of a car-dominated street. This design does the exact opposite by allocating generous spatial priority to active transit.

Rule Number 1: Never upset drivers. Councils urgently need to move with the times and repurpose a small percentage of the huge swathes of London allocated for car parking spaces. Cities need more cyclists. Councils need to adapt to the future

Britain is rotting from within.
▪️Weeds on pavements.
▪️Potholes.
▪️Dirty streets.
▪️Boarded up shops.
▪️Rubbish everywhere.
▪️Blocked road drains.
▪️Filthy road signs.
We are paying more tax to watch a country falling apart.

The replacement traffic warning sign has now been installed on #AshfieldLane's blind corner, opposite Rush Pond, #Chislehurst!
Thank you to #Bromley Council for actioning it, after my request. 👏

The #Ashfieldlane pole remains empty, still awaiting its new traffic warning sign!
I am ever hopeful it will be installed soon, especially since an update mentioning me & my request (in 2nd tweet below) appears in the Minutes of #Bromley's Environment Committee 17th June!

These are #cyclists. Gorgeous. If only more streets were traffic calmed like this we’d see so many more. It’s not difficult. Just need political will.
