REVEALED: Columbus’s mayor signed a deal to import nurses from Ghana into Ohio using taxpayer dollars.
Ghanaian officials say it could become a model for other U.S. states.
Mayor Andrew Ginther’s pitch:
“Ghana has made significant investment in training nursing professionals who can migrate legally to enter a ready market in Columbus.”
The groundwork began with his office in February.
Ohio University representatives have discussed preparing prospective Ghanaian nurses for work in Columbus.
And the sister-city nonprofit that helped arrange the deal? Columbus approved up to $225,000 in taxpayer funding for its operations this year.
That’s funding for the organization. The recruitment program’s own price tag remains unclear.
The announcements don’t identify hiring employers, how many nurses would come, or who pays their relocation costs.
The mayor has already signed.

The Nebraska AG officially weighs in on the Ohio Governor order. Not good.

This appears to be unprecedented executive order—not a league rule, not a statute, and not a court order—of one member state of the Big 10.
I can’t imagine such an order being enforceable across the league, let alone in Nebraska.
Either way, our office is reviewing this very closely as it appears contrary to every rule currently in place.
We will take all necessary and appropriate measures to protect the competitive integrity of the season.
The NCCA is correct.... the Ohio Governor does not have the authority (nor does any governor) to legislate eligibility rules.... This is a bad look for Ohio.
In a letter to membership, NCAA president Charlie Baker states “the Governor of Ohio cannot legislate NCAA eligibility rules.”
Goes on to push Congress to pass the Protect College Sports Act.
