Oldham is where Reform's promise was tested first, and Oldham is where it broke. In May this town handed Reform sixteen seats on a single pledge. No deals. No backroom arrangements. "Vote Reform, get Reform." On 16 September ten of those councillors voted with Arooj Shah's Labour Party for a four-way carve-up of the council, agreed in private meetings over several weeks. Reform were rewarded with two scrutiny chairs, Children's Services (without a single executive power), and the extra allowances. Their leader had told the town the morning before the meeting there were no deals. Their group statement the day following the meeting said the political groups had spent weeks developing the proposal. Nobody signed Reform's statement. This is not an Oldham story. Every town that votes Reform will face the same moment. When officers will walk in with a paper, the old parties offer a share, and someone says they need to act in the public interest. In Oldham, where the case against the old order was stronger than anywhere in England, Reform went into a council meeting and came out voting with Labour. They lied to their voters beforehand. And then they hid behind anonymous Facebook posts afterwards If they folded in Oldham, after repeatedly telling the townsfolk they would not do a deal with Labour, and are now hiding too scared to face the public, how are they any different from what they promised to fight against. I have friends in Reform. I am not attacking Reform. I am simply sharing how many of my townspeople feel right now. Lied to and betrayed. REFORM FAILING IN DURHAM... This is evidence based research on @reformparty_uk in Durham County Council showing lies and falsehoods. Reform and Reform Durham Council keep publishing a £244m saving headline as if the money is in the bank. Durham County Council’s own review of my FOI does not back that up! On the £244m figure the Council said: “does not hold any recorded information that provides a detailed or itemised breakdown, schedule, or calculation methodology.” “No such breakdown has been produced or retained by the Council in recorded form.” That is the authority that announced the number saying it does not hold the workings. A party graphic is not a recorded saving. On the £73m TVERF figure the Council calls it a “headline figure.” The detail sat in unfinished procurement material. They still refuse to release it under EIR 12(4)(d) and 12(5)(e) This is incomplete data and commercial confidentiality. No public model. No comparator. No methodology. They did not “save £73m” THEY ARE STILL IN THE PROJECT Seven councils, Viridor. A decades-long contract estimated up to £2.4bn. Capacity heading to 450,000 tonnes a year. Financial close aimed at 2026. Plant still planned for around 2029. The Council’s own review states the £73m was calculated on concluding a new contract. NOT WITHDRAWL OR CANCELLATION The model did not include exit/change costs! Reform’s own posts admit they could not realistically leave because of punitive withdrawal costs (around 30m) Staying in, then publishing a confidential assumption they will not disclose, is not £73m saved. Cllr Grimes has been quoted saying the savings were negotiated in a “make-or-break” DCC–Viridor meeting with “no other council leaders present or involved.” There is no published minutes, attendee list or agreed gate-fee change from that meeting! The £73m / £244m lines went out around 30 October 2025. On 20 November 2025 Durham then awarded Local Partnerships LLP £61,200, without competition, for an “independent assessment and technical review of the TVERF project from a Durham County Council perspective.” That report has not been published. Do you think this was costed in too… NO We do not know if it verified the headlines, revised them, or never addressed them. What is still hidden: The model, the comparator, the contract years, if the £73m is spread over, whether housing growth and extra waste were included, who attended the Viridor meeting, and what Local Partnerships concluded. If the figures were real and complete, the Council would hold a recorded breakdown and could publish it. They do not hold one for £244m. They will not release the £73m workings. THAT IS THE RECORD Headlines without the paperwork. Side note.... for a council needing to save money and being against migration. When designer and high-street procurement-card spend was raised, Cllr Husband’s line was that "children in care get Christmas too." Some transactions are coded as Christmas/birthday allowances. BREAKING: France is running out of fuel. 11% of France's stations nationwide are now out of petrol or diesel, one in nine, with 16% of stations short in Grand Est, 15% in Pays de la Loire, 14% in Occitanie, and 13% in Centre-Val de Loire, per government figures published this morning. The official count only registers a station as short if it has no petrol at all or no diesel at all, so a station out of one grade but holding another is not counted, meaning the real shortage is much larger. French diesel averages €2.406 a litre, about $10.45 a gallon. Europe is facing its worst energy crisis in history.
