Maven Resume Rankings through Week 5 — all 138 teams.
These are résumé-based, not predictive: strictly what each team has earned on the field so far.
Texas leads the way at #1. Agree or disagree?
Doesn't change much, but I just realized that this data did not include Arkansas State's loss to Louisiana. That drops Arkansas State to 105.

College football rankings have an identity crisis. Are we ranking who has accomplished the most, who would win on a neutral field, or who has the best playoff case? Those are 3 different questions—but we keep pretending one Top 25 can answer all three. Which should matter most?
If this were how we did things, there’s ZERO I would ever schedule a team with a pulse out of conference. I also would never play a starter more than about one quarter. Why would I risk injury in a pointless game. You’ve now shortened an already short season to 9 games.
That’s a weird line to draw. Success is relative for every program. 7-5 is successful for UMass. UGA and Ohio State getting the 23 and 24 seeds and getting bumped in the 1st round is a failure.
Serious CFB question:
As schedules become more uneven—even within the same conference—should playoff selection lean more on opponent-adjusted efficiency and résumé strength than raw W-L record?
At what point does 10–2 stop meaning the same thing for every team?
I do enjoy @AnotherJerryLU’s milquetoast comebacks to it all!

The most frustrating thing about generating a power rating is that people can't understand this concept.
Teams don't play consistently. How often do teams replay each other in the same season with wildly different results?
Power ratings are for the next game, not the last one.
Funny you should ask, @JoshPateCFB 👇
RIGHT NOW, Florida would be a 4-point favorite against Mizzou on a neutral field, despite the Tigers' 45-17 H2H win.

This is well said.

No. The better team doesn’t win 100% of the time. If that were true, upsets wouldn’t exist.
Game location, injuries, turnovers, general variance affect the outcome of an individual game. Power ratings are trying to measure underlying team quality, not pretend every game is played under identical circumstances.
Somehow, @ESPN_BillC has me avidly defending a man I’ve never met and only briefly interacted with today. I respect quality and SP+ is quality.
It’s pretty terrible, unfortunately. This number was in the 18-20% range just 4 to 5 years ago. It dipped to about 10% last season and has continued to dive. The portal and NIL are undoubtedly the cause.
Maven Top 25 Resume Rankings through Week 5 are here.
These are résumé-based rankings—measuring what teams have actually earned on the field, not projecting future strength. If I were an AP voter, this would be my ballot.
Texas sits at #1. Who’s too high? Who’s too low?
