I feel rather strongly that the editor of SCOTUSblog should should not make a suggestion that literally everyone left of Josh Blackman thinks is a horrible idea.
Alito won't retire in the lame duck and he doesn't need to. Trump can nominate someone to the Supreme Court and the senate can confirm without a vacancy. Then Trump can wait to sign the commission any time in the next two years. The question isn't Alito, its Cornyn/Tillis/Thune.

Remembering @JDVance saying that if Watergate happened today it would be a 12 hour new story, a kind of tacit permission to ignore the corruption of this administration. And then the country revolts against this administration at Watergate levels. Neat.
The 1994 “revolution” saw Rs win the popular vote by 6.8 pts 2006 was D + 7.9 2010 was R + 6.8 2018 was D + 8.6 2026 Ds are tracking toward a 13-pt popular vote win Have to go back half a century—the post-Watergate wipeout of 1974, D + 16.8 pts—to find anything like this.

Jolly’s decision not to debate Donalds was moronic —a dumb candidate’s idea of a smart tactic Since spring, I told Mike & others that Jolly was running a campaign to ensure he’d finish in second place with 48.5% of the vote Jolly got 48.71% I was off by 0.2%
Replying to @MikeGrunwald
I said this to the excellent @davidjollyfl at his first big Democratic event in Miami. He agreed! His awesome wife @laurajollyfl said Different Kind of Democrat should be his slogan! Because he is a different kind of Democrat! But he didn’t run as a different kind of Democrat. 3

Huh, I deleted most of my old tweets a few months ago but somehow this one survived.
Say the low propensity non-college non-white shift ends up being the story of 2024…there would be a lot of teeth gnashing but then those voters sit out the 2026 midterms and maybe Dems flip all these Senate seats, and there wouldn’t be a need to “learn any lessons.”

Think bigger: let’s get rid of the Electoral College, now that the GOP has to stare down the possibility of a D Presidential ticket carrying the state by 10,000 votes and losing every last electoral vote.
Democrats should offer a gerrymandering ban, and should be willing to compromise in good faith to get it done. It's such a corrosive negative sum game.

While I don't know what happened to him afterwards, Brian Shaffer left the Gateway building before he disappeared. You can walk under the main entrance camera (obvious from the footage!) and there are a couple back entrances. Cops fed rumors to keep the story alive.
I was just thinking today, what's the most "solved" unsolved mystery? I think my favorite is Amy Bradley. She disappeared after going out drinking until 4 AM on a cruise ship and was last seen sitting on a balcony drunk off her ass and every youtube video on the subject thinks it's more likely she was kidnapped by white slavers and sex trafficked to a brothel in Curacao than that she drunkenly fell off a boat

Maps to come later. But comparing Gina Hinojosa (Gov) with Jon Rosenthal (Railroad Commissioner), really cool coalition splits. Hinojosa did better with rural whites. There were Hinojosa-Bo French voters, if you can believe it. Rosenthal did *MUCH* better with Indians and Pakistanis. Some precincts in Frisco and Sugar Land had 15-20 point ticket splits with Rosenthal-Abbott.

I am 100% Team Nate in this beef. It’s *obvious* to anyone paying attention that the betting markets just moved over time towards the models. That’s the info they were working off of! They didn’t “discover” anything
Give me a break, the polls and models provided the direction in contast to vibes and dumb insiders. And yes it's good that traders were smart enough to trust them. But the better election models were more confident about the outcome than the markets and got there more quickly.

Herrera had a pal volunteer to help his opponent, triumphantly revealed the scheme on election day, and then lost the race with a 23-point shift towards Democrats from 2024? I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before.
