Mid interview with a democratic candidate in Dearborn , Michigan we suddenly learn that @HaleyforMI has screwed her own party - jumped ship to support Trumps man for the senate over the Democrats and @AbdulElSayed

Something is going horribly wrong in the Senate race in Michigan. And I am going to keep calling it out. On the one hand, the Republicans are conducting a campaign of blatant anti-Muslim fear mongering. Mike Rogers, Donald Trump and the rest of the GOP need to knock it off. Mike needs to personally and repeatedly denounce hate against Muslims. But now, at the same time, we have TWO ads from the Democratic side that ALSO traffic in hate and intolerance — causing alarm for some Black and Jewish voters. Seriously— WTF ???? The first ad was from Rebellion PAC (NOT the official Abdul El-Sayyed campaign). It suggested that Americans can’t buy groceries because the USA sends so much money to Israel. That is a lie. The USA spends less than 00.1 percent of our federal budget on support for Israel. But this ad pretends bananas cost too much because the Jewish state is bleeding us dry. TOTALLY nuts. And yet — this kind of thinking has always put Jewish lives at risk. Blaming Jews for everyone’s economic problems has a long, bloody history. Abdul did try to separate himself from the ad. He accurately noted that his campaign didn’t produce it. But the problem is: if you listen, Abdul actually NEVER DENOUNCED the CONTENT of the ad. He never said, “This ad is wrong.” He just said, “Hey, it wasn’t me.” 😬😬😬 That ad — and Abdul’s refusal to forthrightly denounce it — is scaring some Jewish Democrats in Michigan, who now are more reluctant to vote for him. In other words, that one ad alone is jeopardizing our party’s shot at taking back the U.S. Senate. BUT IT GETS WORSE! Then Abdul’s formal, official campaign put out its OWN ad — which features none other than the vile and contemptible Tucker Carlson (!!!). As you know, Tucker Carlson is a rabid, anti-Black bigot who also traffics in anti-Jewish stereotypes. He is anathema to most Black people and most Jews. No Democrat should ever celebrate the words of a white nationalist who actively undermines the safety of Black people and Jewish people. Moreover, given the importance of Black and Jewish Democrats to our victory in Michigan, the decision to include Tucker Carlson in any Democratic ad there is truly baffling. Why am I speaking out about this now? Because I want Democrats to build a winning coalition — now and into the future. Chasing off any Black or Jewish voters is a path to defeat — both in the short term and the long term. As proud Democrats, it can feel uncomfortable or risky to speak against intolerance in our own party, especially just days before a national election. It would be easier for us to let this stuff slide, shut up and close ranks. But that would make us hypocrites. For 10 years, we Democrats have watched with dismay and disgust as Republicans (who know better) have refused to challenge ANY bad ideas or bad actions in their own ranks. As a result, their party curdled into a cult — one that is now wrecking the country AND falling apart. As Democrats, we should not make the same mistake. Anti-Muslim hate is wrong. Period. Anti-Jewish hate is wrong. Period. Tucker Carlson’s white nationalism is wrong. Period. All candidates in Michigan need to say that clearly— and then pull down/denounce any ads that normalize hate or elevate hate mongers.

It goes without saying that on a historic election night for the Arab voters, in which they’ve elected an unprecedented number of MKs, Netanyahu has just totally disregarded them as equal citizens. But that was to be expected. What’s more disappointing (though sadly not very surprising) is that the Jewish opposition leaders didn’t make any gesture in their speeches to the Arabs either, and spoke of a “Zionist” government. They deserve to lose to Netanyahu.

Last night, the exit polls told one story: Netanyahu had lost, but it wasn’t clear who on the other side had won. This morning, the results are telling another. Netanyahu hasn’t won yet, but the change bloc has clearly lost. I’ve covered politics since the start of the century. I have never seen a camp organize for an election as impeccably, as efficiently and as energetically as the change bloc did. It signed model surplus-vote agreements, so that no leftover votes would go to waste, and ran an unprecedented operation flying Israelis home from abroad to vote. And by the actual count, it ended up with more or less the same number of seats as in the last election. Demography beat energy, and the message also proved flawed and unsuccessful. The public wasn’t convinced that the war had been a total victory, as Netanyahu claimed, but it also refused to buy the opposition’s claim that it was a total failure. It was repelled by Haredi draft-dodging, but didn’t think the solution was a minority government propped up by draft refusers and anti-Zionists. It was disgusted when ultra-Orthodox protesters chanted “We do not believe in the rule of the Zionists,” but it was just as shocked when “Biladi, Biladi,” the Palestinian national anthem, was sung at the Joint List’s headquarters last night. Netanyahu’s position changed completely between the release of the exit polls and the arrival of the real results. Last night it seemed clear that Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, a Likud loyalist, would be ousted and that, one way or another, Gadi Eisenkot, the former IDF chief of staff, would form a minority government. Now, by the criteria Eisenkot himself set, he has lost the legitimacy to form such a government. He promised he wouldn’t rely on the Arab parties’ votes, yet without a majority he would now need the active support of the Joint List, which looks futile and pointless. In post-October 7 Israel, there is no chance that a coalition including six candidates who lost immediate family to Hamas could last long alongside Joint List lawmakers who claim Hamas is simply a charitable organization. After the 1967 war, Defense Minister Moshe Dayan famously said Israel was waiting for the Arabs to call. In the same spirit, Netanyahu in effect told the change camp before dawn: here’s my phone number, feel free to use it. Yisrael Beiteinu’s Avigdor Lieberman, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Eisenkot now face a dilemma from hell. They can go to another election, one that Israelis abroad will no longer fly home for. They can try to join Netanyahu’s bloc on tough terms, breaking their campaign pledges never to sit with him. Or they can beg the Islamist Ra’am and the Joint List, now drunk on their success, for support. And one final note: for the entire campaign, we searched for a third bloc, a centrist unity bloc between Netanyahu and his rivals. Candidates included Benny Gantz and former UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan, former general Ofer Winter and economist Yaron Zelekha, former Culture Minister Hili Tropper and who even remembers who else. They all collapsed, evaporated or vanished. And now it turns out the unity bloc may have been the Arab parties all along. Their historic, almost hysterical turnout, at rates that will need careful examination, shattered both sides’ dreams of a 61-seat majority. It reminded Jews on both sides that, after years of division, they may have to learn to sit together after all. newsletter.amitsegal.net/p/i…

BREAKING: Texas Republicans announce they will “Pass on Paxton”: “I truly believe that he is the most corrupt politician Texas has ever seen.” “To send Ken Paxton to the United States Senate is adding another gator to the swamp.” “James Talarico is by far — without a doubt — the best person in the race for the US Senate.”

If Israel's current exit polls hold, the parties representing the Jewish center will have to make a choice: partner with Arab parties or else keep Bibi in power. A pretty clear metaphor for the choice facing Israel more broadly.

Two takeaways based on exit polls: First, neither camp has a a clear path to forming a coalition. That leaves us with a simple but unavoidable conclusion: for Israel to have a government in the coming weeks, someone is going to have to break a campaign promise. It could be Eisenkot deciding to form a government with the support of Ra’am, the Arab party led by Mansour Abbas. It could be Bennett, Liberman or even Eisenkot deciding to cross the partisan line and join a government with Netanyahu. The second takeaway is that a decisive majority of Israelis are opposed to Netanyahu and want to see him out of office. Based on projections, approximately 70 seats voted for parties - Jewish and Arab - committed to ousting Netanyahu. That does not mean all 70 support Eisenkot or that they can necessarily sit together in one government. But it does mean that Netanyahu and his coalition have lost the support of a majority of the electorate.

Israel BREAKING: It appears that Netanyahu’s call to arms on election day got voters out to vote for his Likud party at the expense of his coalition partners on the harder right. He’s increased his party’s share - but cannibalised his own bloc for power

George W. and Laura Bush are backing James Talarico against Trump's terrible candidate Ken Paxton
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The article shown names Barbara Bush, daughter of George W. and Laura Bush, who gave $2,500 to a PAC backing Talarico, and George W.'s brother Neil Bush, who said he voted for Talarico. It does not report that George W. or Laura Bush back him. hoodline.com/2026/10/second…

Tonight - Serbia feels like the new Hungary - over throwing of a Russia friendly / Putin sympathising leader for something genuinely new - in Serbias case a student led party . Does this shift dynamics in the war on Ukraine ? And with the shape of the EU?
I have just spoken by phone with the leaders of the Students' List @studentblokade, who won the elections in Serbia, to congratulate them on their victory. I assured them of Hungary’s support. I was delighted to hear how much strength our victory in April had given them during this difficult struggle.

What is complicated is the Student list party have ruled OUT sanctions on Russia. And haven’t committed to EU membership . They are predominantly anti corruption and pro democracy. But their foreign policy aims are still unclear …
