Sharon Stone says she will never get over seeing her 17-year-old prom date in his casket with their prom picture in his pocket. A drunk driver ran him off the road on his motorcycle and kept going. The night it happened, she sat up on the edge of the sofa until dawn because she already knew something was wrong. At the funeral she saw his football team standing in the back, thought they were all children, and walked out without saying a word. People mostly know the movie star. This is a teenage girl finding out in one morning that being young was over for her. Some grief stays with you for the rest of your life, and she's still carrying this one. ft: @andersoncooper All There Is on youtube

Winona Ryder was a generational crush: instant visual shorthand for alternative cool. She perfected the intelligent, cynical, emotionally raw underdog in films like Heathers and Reality Bites. And if rumour has it, she also liked to wear out hat-wearing pop singers.

Saddened to hear of the loss of the stunning Elke Sommer - it marks the passing of a truly luminous presence in cinema, a woman whose radiant beauty, sparkling blue eyes, and irresistible European allure brought glamour and sophistication to the screen. #RIP

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos made $49.8 million in 2023. Aaron Paul won three Emmys for Breaking Bad, a show Netflix has streamed since 2011. He says Netflix pays him $0 for it. He said it on a picket line, outside the studio that made the show. In the video below, Paul stands outside Sony in 2023 and says: "I don't get a piece from Netflix on Breaking Bad, to be totally honest, and that's insane to me." Breaking Bad ran on AMC from 2008 to 2013. Paul has said it drew about 700,000 viewers before Netflix. Then Netflix put the early seasons online, people binged them, and the finale pulled 10.3 million. "I just saw the other day Breaking Bad was trending on Netflix," he says. "Shows live forever on these streamers." At the same picket, Bryan Cranston is blunter. Without unions, he says, management "will just keep stuffing their pockets." The case for Netflix: it didn't make the show. Sony did, and Netflix paid Sony to stream it. When Paul signed on in 2007, Netflix was still mostly mailing DVDs. And he was paid for every episode he shot. The case for Paul: the show keeps making money from his face, years after the cameras stopped. He says he doesn't. One man helped run Netflix that year and made $49.8 million. The other played Jesse Pinkman, and he says he got $0. The show never stopped making money. It just stopped paying him. So does Netflix owe Aaron Paul a cut, or was he already paid in full?

Polanski’s debut Knife In The Water (out today, 1963) seems forgotten today compared to, say, Chinatown; it’s, like, in Polish, and nobody knows the cast, and they sail a lot. But I love the film’s cynical view that younger generations can’t outwit their elders; Gen Z, anyone?

She was 15 when she strangled a 9 year old girl, slit her throat and left her in a grave she had dug days earlier. Then she went home and wrote in her diary that it felt “ahmazing.” What else she wrote that night is somehow worse: “as soon as you get over the oh my god i can’t do this feeling, it’s pretty enjoyable,” she wrote, hours after ending Elizabeth Olten’s life. Alyssa Bustamante later admitted she simply wanted to know what it felt like, so she picked the little girl who lived down the street and led her into the woods in Missouri. In the video below she sits in court, calm and composed, looking like any ordinary teenager, while her own words are read back to the room. She pleaded guilty and was handed life with only a distant chance at parole. She has already been denied once, and will be middle aged before she can even ask again. How do you ever hand a person like this back to the world?

Christina Aguilera said her best skill in bed is BLOWJOBS - and called herself a “PROMOTER OF THE SWALLOW.” 💀 Alex Cooper asked what she’s best at in the bedroom. “It’s got to be blowjobs.” Then she went further. “I’m a promoter of the swallow, OK. I didn’t put in that hard work for nothing.” And then came the places. The studio soundboard. Planes. Under blankets. Alex thought she meant a PRIVATE plane. “No, I’m not actually.” She was talking about international flights. Lights out. Blankets. Waiting for everyone to fall asleep. Alex’s reaction? “Oh my God, that’s iconic.” 😭

Zardoz exists because Lord of the Rings didn’t. John Boorman lost the funding for his Tolkien adaptation, so he rerouted everything into Zardoz. Ironically, Sean Connery turned down Gandalf in ’99 because he “didn’t get it”… but he got this.
