For 25 years, Write for Rights has shown that ordinary people can challenge injustice through collective action. Millions have written letters, signed petitions and sent messages of hope to people whose rights have been denied. Together, those actions have helped free prisoners of conscience, reunite families, change unjust laws and remind countless people that they are not alone.
Today, that shared determination is more important than ever.
Authoritarian practices are expanding at an unprecedented pace — eroding civic freedoms, weaponizing surveillance, and silencing those who speak up, all to further entrench power. From genocide to repression and the dismantling of hard-won rights, we are witnessing a systemic assault on the foundations of our shared humanity. This is not the work of a single leader or a single moment. It is a pattern — and it demands a response.
The individuals at the heart of this year’s campaign have experienced that repression firsthand. By writing letters, signing petitions, and raising your voice, you become part of that resistance too.
Now is the time to make a choice.

Human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha deserve justice. Today they were sentenced to ten years in prison on counts of “terrorism.” Their crime? Defending activists, lawyers and marginalized communities that were subjected to enforced disappearances and unjust charges.
They underwent an unfair trial for this fearless human rights work. Authorities must immediately release Imaan and Hadi and drop all charges against them.

Palestinian families were forced from their homes, soldiers took over residential buildings, and the military demolished structures. Following the shooting near Hebron on Friday, 23 October, in which two Israeli soldiers were killed, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz declared Israel's intention to forcibly displace Palestinians and carry out extensive destruction in the area. This is a campaign of collective punishment.
Between 23 and 26 October, Israeli forces forcibly displaced Palestinian families from their homes in the Jildah and 'Ein Deir Bahah neighborhoods, and soldiers took over numerous homes, flying Israeli flags over several buildings. The arrest and interrogation of residents continued on Saturday. As of Monday, 26 October, the Hebron Municipality reported 518 displaced families, comprising 3,368 people, including 1,384 minors.
The mass displacement and destruction carried out by Israel in Hebron are part of its Elimination Project in the West Bank: systematically dismantling Palestinian collective life.

Today, my heart is heavy. We have lost a giant.
Dolores Huerta was far more than a civil rights icon. She was a guiding light. A woman who showed generations of us what courage, dignity, and a deep commitment to justice look like; what true feminism means. She dedicated her life to those too often ignored, exploited, and excluded, transforming pain into collective action and giving voice to workers, women, immigrants, and marginalized communities.
She taught us, especially Mexican, Indigenous, and Chicana/Latina women and girls, that solidarity is a collective act of love, and that ordinary people have the power to change history. Her life helped shape my own path in the struggle for social justice, and her courage and legacy will continue to guide me.
Thank you, Dolores, for showing us that sí se puede. Your legacy lives on in every struggle for justice, equality, and human dignity. We will carry your example forward. Now, you Rest in Power, querida Dolores. And on Monday, Día de Muertos, I'll save a place for you at the ofrenda, with a special molito and tamales worthy of a life so beautifully lived.✊🏿🖤
