When I wrote my book The Tech Coup, quite a few people remarked that the word ‘coup’ might be an overstatement. Today it sadly seems like an understatement ↘️ bookshop.org/p/books/the-tec…

If you were thinking concentrating AI behind closed doors is safe, it is time to update your priors!
EXCLUSIVE: In less than 12 hours, a group of ex-DOGE cyber researchers were able to penetrate Anthropic’s systems using AI agents — including Slack channels where the most sensitive models are discussed.
This is just weeks after
Anthropic whistleblower Joseph Coxon charged the company w/launching “a hubristic gamble” from a “private company’s Slack.”

That's not my definition of either free speech or democracy.
Elon Musk has cemented his record as the largest individual political donor in modern American history.
Musk poured $446 million of his own money into this year’s midterm elections, mostly aimed at preserving the Republican Party’s control of Congress. wapo.st/4igb5Kq

There is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal U.S. Senator.

No, @elonmusk, the U.S. stopped funding Ukraine last year. In fact, U.S. companies make money on American weapons for which we Europeans pay.
The more you meddle in our politics and the more you play politics with your products, the more you damage your brand.
Replying to @elonmusk
And some of that US taxpayer money comes back through multiple laundry machines to fund political campaigns in America, which is why you see some politicians caring more about Ukraine than America!

As AI firms recklessly unleash hacking agents across the internet, longstanding cybersecurity vulnerabilities are being exploited with even greater ease and frequency.
Hackers who compromise accounts or expose sensitive data can upend people’s lives.
This is not happening in a legal vacuum, and businesses across sectors face real legal duties.
At @FTC we routinely brought lawsuits against firms whose lax data security practices led to major hacks, exposing people to identify theft, stalking, and serious data misuse.
1. AI firms that are unleashing hacking agents could be held liable for engaging in “unfair or deceptive” practices under the FTC act and state UDAP laws, as well as other statutes.
2. Businesses whose systems get hacked because they’ve failed to follow basic security protocols may also be liable for failing to implement reasonable safeguards. Bad actors may be the ones exploiting these vulnerabilities, but that doesn't absolve businesses from having allowed the vulnerabilities to persist in the first place.
Here is a list we published of some basic security vulnerabilities businesses have a legal obligation to patch up: ftc.gov/policy/advocacy-rese…
3. CEOs can also be personally liable for presiding over lax data security practices, as we held in our case against Drizly: ftc.gov/news-events/news/pre…
4. Lastly, businesses that suffer hacks or breaches must alert any affected parties with clear disclosures that are timely, accurate, and actionable. Failing to disclose security breaches can also violate the law: ftc.gov/policy/advocacy-rese…

Important escalation in space warfare here, which many analysts have anticipated is a next frontier. And god help us if this cascades.
A Russian satellite has been making hostile moves toward a U.S.-registered commercial satellite providing radar data in support of Ukraine, raising urgent questions about Russia’s intentions and the rules governing behavior in space. @CSISAerospace's @crswope breaks down what Russia’s satellite could do next and why the incident highlights the need for clearer norms and deterrence in space.

Mythos is telling us there is the obvious — there no Special Relationship for tech. The UK will not be treated as “American.”
What I’m worried about now is this coupled with the inevitable European export controls and Buy European regulations. Without a much deeper game changing Special Relationship with Europe — the UK will not be treated as “European.”
What this means for the future of London as a global AI hub is nothing good. American and European frontier restrictions and British firms cut out of European critical AI infrastructure projects.
This is the logical consequences of being outside a major regulatory bloc in an age of great power competition.
