When he worked for us on @SeneddFinance I rated Daniel Greenberg, but as Parliamentary Commissioner he has taken a wrong turn. It is a disgrace that an elected MPs should be humiliated in this way. Elected MPs must take back control from lay members and commissioners.
Poor chap. What public interest is served in making an MP humiliate himself like this? It approaches a forced recantation in Maoโs China. Standards regime and its lanyard class is out of control and must be reined back.

I've said it before & I'll say it again. Immigration & deportation decisions should be non-justiciable. No judges, no tribunals. It should be purely down to the Government using royal prerogative power.
Unlike Balliol who add five German alumni war deaths at bottom, and use same engraving for Adam von Trott zu Solz - executed for his part in July 1944 plot to kill Hitler - as for the four others
Quite, this is ridiculous. What on earth is Nigel meant to have done wrong here?
I have watched this thrice.

I have read some suggestions that police officers who take their own lives while under investigation do so because they โcannot face up to their guiltโ.
That is an extraordinarily simplistic and dangerous assumption.
It also betrays a profound lack of understanding of just how punitive, protracted and opaque the process of holding police officers to account has become.
I have worked in Policing Professional Standards. I believe absolutely in holding police officers to the highest standards. But accountability without due process is not accountability.
Research has examined the psychological impact of misconduct investigations on officers who were ultimately exonerated. That fact alone should give people pause before casually equating distress with guilt.
An allegation can mean suspension, professional isolation, reputational damage, family and financial pressure, and months or even years of uncertainty. For a police officer, their profession is often a significant part of their identity. Being removed from it while an allegation hangs over them can have profound consequences.
And being cleared does not simply put everything back together.
Some officers will never return to the operational confidence, professional identity or psychological wellbeing they had before the investigation began.
Exoneration cannot return the months or years taken from them. Many will never get promoted again no matter how competent they are.
Police officers must be accountable for wrongdoing. Equally, the institutions investigating them must be accountable for how they investigate.
Due process, timely investigations, transparency and procedural fairness are not protections from accountability. They are what makes accountability legitimate.

There's no sign it ever opened. Its only premises was an empty former Santander branch. Betfred plans to run the same unit with 6 staff (124m^2).
It never filed a single set of accounts.
It had ยฃ1 of share capital. It got three compulsory strike-off notices while sponsoring dozens of workers.
Its licence was gone by June 2026. The company was dissolved in September.
How was this business EVER allowed to sponsor visas? What "genuine business need" could they possibly have shown for ONE worker, let alone FORTY workers?
What on earth is UK Visas and Immigration doing?

209 years ago today, Britain ARMED an African king. ๐ฌ๐ง
Muskets. Gunpowder. Ten thousand gun flints. Four hundred red coats. ๐
British sergeants to train his army. A salary in gold and silver, every year. ๐ฐ
Britain wanted him to win. ๐
Valley after valley. Chief after chief. Until two-thirds of Madagascar was under his rule. ๐บ๏ธ
On purpose. ๐
Why? ๐ค
Because on that island, chiefs raided villages and sold the people. To French slave ships. To Arab dhows. To other African kingdoms. โ๏ธ
Then they bought guns with the money. To raid more villages. ๐ฅ
Guns for people. People for guns. ๐
Britain had banned its own slave trade in 1807. But it couldnโt guard every beach on an island nearly a thousand miles long. ๐
So a sergeant from Cork travelled 28 days, by canoe and on foot, to reach the king. ๐ถ
For two months they bargained. Then he made an offer nobody had authorised. ๐ค
Every gun the slave trade gave the king, Britain would give him free. If he stopped selling people. โ
On 23 October 1817, the king signed. Selling his people abroad would be punished by death. โ๏ธ
Then Britain helped him take the island. Port after port, every one closed to the slave ships. โ

๐จJUST IN: BBC AI chief previously jailed for immigration offences after al-Qaeda manual found.
โข An Algerian migrant who was once found in possession of an al-Qaeda training manual is now principal data scientist in the Responsible AI division at the BBC.
โข Hicham Yezza was working at the University of Nottingham in 2008 when the document was discovered on his computer; he and a colleague were arrested under the Terrorism Act but released without charge after he said it had been sent for printing.
โข He was then rearrested under immigration rules and sentenced in 2009 to nine months in prison for an offence related to his claim of having permission to remain in Britain; he served five months and is now a British citizen.
โข Before joining the BBC he worked as an editor and later as an Al Jazeera consultant, and held editorial roles at the corporation including as a Middle East and North Africa expert.
โข Prior to his BBC employment he posted online about the occupation and apartheid in Israel and described rockets fired from Gaza as resistance.
