I've said it before & I'll say it again. Immigration & deportation decisions should be non-justiciable. No judges, no tribunals. It should be purely down to the Government using royal prerogative power.

I have read some suggestions that police officers who take their own lives while under investigation do so because they “cannot face up to their guilt”. That is an extraordinarily simplistic and dangerous assumption. It also betrays a profound lack of understanding of just how punitive, protracted and opaque the process of holding police officers to account has become. I have worked in Policing Professional Standards. I believe absolutely in holding police officers to the highest standards. But accountability without due process is not accountability. Research has examined the psychological impact of misconduct investigations on officers who were ultimately exonerated. That fact alone should give people pause before casually equating distress with guilt. An allegation can mean suspension, professional isolation, reputational damage, family and financial pressure, and months or even years of uncertainty. For a police officer, their profession is often a significant part of their identity. Being removed from it while an allegation hangs over them can have profound consequences. And being cleared does not simply put everything back together. Some officers will never return to the operational confidence, professional identity or psychological wellbeing they had before the investigation began. Exoneration cannot return the months or years taken from them. Many will never get promoted again no matter how competent they are. Police officers must be accountable for wrongdoing. Equally, the institutions investigating them must be accountable for how they investigate. Due process, timely investigations, transparency and procedural fairness are not protections from accountability. They are what makes accountability legitimate.

She is correct. Silly to claim Brexit caused the migrants to come over in small boats from France
Shabana Mahmood strongly disputes (to a rather smug Lib Dem MP) the notion Brexit caused the small boats crisis. Feb 2026

Behold ATM BAR AND RESTAURANTS LTD! A "cocktail bar" in Wickford was assigned 40 Skilled Worker visa certificates in 2023 and 2024. One of the 2023 roles was a web designer, for a bar with no website There's no sign it ever opened. Its only premises was an empty former Santander branch. Betfred plans to run the same unit with 6 staff (124m^2). It never filed a single set of accounts. It had £1 of share capital. It got three compulsory strike-off notices while sponsoring dozens of workers. Its licence was gone by June 2026. The company was dissolved in September. How was this business EVER allowed to sponsor visas? What "genuine business need" could they possibly have shown for ONE worker, let alone FORTY workers? What on earth is UK Visas and Immigration doing?

Britain's biggest ever petition wasn't about Britain. 📜 1814. We'd just beaten Napoleon. The peace treaty gave France five more years of the slave trade. ⚓ Our own government had signed it. The country erupted. 🔥 One in every seventeen people signed. Children included. ✍️ Castlereagh took those names to Vienna. He could have asked for anything. He asked for an end to the slave trade. ⚖️ France never got its five years because of the British people. 🇫🇷 🫷🇬🇧 Be part of us. ☝️🇬🇧 Be Proud Of Us. 🙏🇬🇧

209 years ago today, Britain ARMED an African king. 🇬🇧 Muskets. Gunpowder. Ten thousand gun flints. Four hundred red coats. 💂 British sergeants to train his army. A salary in gold and silver, every year. 💰 Britain wanted him to win. 👑 Valley after valley. Chief after chief. Until two-thirds of Madagascar was under his rule. 🗺️ On purpose. 👀 Why? 🤔 Because on that island, chiefs raided villages and sold the people. To French slave ships. To Arab dhows. To other African kingdoms. ⛓️ Then they bought guns with the money. To raid more villages. 🔥 Guns for people. People for guns. 🔁 Britain had banned its own slave trade in 1807. But it couldn’t guard every beach on an island nearly a thousand miles long. 🌊 So a sergeant from Cork travelled 28 days, by canoe and on foot, to reach the king. 🛶 For two months they bargained. Then he made an offer nobody had authorised. 🤝 Every gun the slave trade gave the king, Britain would give him free. If he stopped selling people. ✋ On 23 October 1817, the king signed. Selling his people abroad would be punished by death. ✍️ Then Britain helped him take the island. Port after port, every one closed to the slave ships. ⚓ They teach you Britain profited from slavery. 📚 They never teach you how we got them to stop selling their own people. 🤫 Britain armed an African king. On purpose. 🇬🇧 Be part of us. ☝️🇬🇧 Be Proud Of Us. 🙏🇬🇧

It isn't even remotely surprising any more
🚨JUST IN: BBC AI chief previously jailed for immigration offences after al-Qaeda manual found. • An Algerian migrant who was once found in possession of an al-Qaeda training manual is now principal data scientist in the Responsible AI division at the BBC. • Hicham Yezza was working at the University of Nottingham in 2008 when the document was discovered on his computer; he and a colleague were arrested under the Terrorism Act but released without charge after he said it had been sent for printing. • He was then rearrested under immigration rules and sentenced in 2009 to nine months in prison for an offence related to his claim of having permission to remain in Britain; he served five months and is now a British citizen. • Before joining the BBC he worked as an editor and later as an Al Jazeera consultant, and held editorial roles at the corporation including as a Middle East and North Africa expert. • Prior to his BBC employment he posted online about the occupation and apartheid in Israel and described rockets fired from Gaza as resistance.

So basically, you can accept any rent a landlord asks for and then retrospectively claim you were desperate, and a tribunal will change your rent because some properties that aren't the same size or even in the same building are being advertised at a lower price.
The long march towards Total Judicial Communism continues. We have devolved price setting to a couple of former solicitors scrolling Zoopla. Madness. telegraph.co.uk/money/proper…

High time Immigration Lawyers were investigated into. Many of us have been saying this for a very long time.
As immigrants get legal aid lawyers, but Home Office doesn’t, immigration judges are then recruited from the lawyers who argue for immigrants. Crazy system.

The Empire suppressed the self-immolation of widows and female infanticide in India and female genital mutilation in Africa. It moderated the disruptive impact of the inevitable arrival of Western modernity upon very unmodern societies in North America and especially Australia. It created regional peace by imposing an overarching imperial authority on multiple, warring peoples—unifying, for example, much of the Indian subcontinent. It promoted a worldwide free market, protected by the Royal Navy, that gave native producers and entrepreneurs in India and West Africa new economic opportunities. It made foreign investment attractive by reducing risk through establishing political stability and the rule of law. Consequently, Australia’s gross domestic product per capita became the highest in the world by 1890, and by 1914 India was the world’s fourth largest textile-producer. The Empire built canals in India, bringing five times as much land under irrigation as the Mughals had in the 18th century. By 1900 it had figured out how to prevent food shortage escalating into famine there and went on to fight disease in tropical Africa. It provided a civil service and judiciary that was generally and extraordinarily incorrupt. It introduced liberal ideas and liberal institutions of a free press and representative government to places that had never known them. New Zealand was the first country in the world to grant the vote to men and women on equal terms, in 1893, and by 1935 electoral democracy had been established in Indian provinces. From May 1940, when France fell, to June 1941, when Germany invaded the Soviet Union, The British Empire offered Nazi Germany the only military resistance—with the sole exception of Greece. Inspired by the ideal of the Commonwealth, it helped to plan and realise the League of Nations after the First World War and the United Nations after 1945. And it brought up three of the most prosperous and liberal states in the world—Canada, Australia and New Zealand—and gave birth to one more, the United States. Significantly, there is evidence that all of these former members of the British Empire are among the least racist countries on earth. Read our latest here: nigelbiggar.co.uk/p/empire-a…

I have had to delay getting a new car due to the cost. I work, and have to be careful with my money in part due to how heavily I am taxed. Those on PIP casually fill out a form to get a new car with no such concern. And I have to pay for it.
