Pieter Levels (@levelsio) has a habit of confidently misreading data and treating anecdotes as evidence 🧵👇 This is what happens when you train your AI and your following base with skewed world views, dodgy studies and huge biases: they amplify your crooked narrative.
At least 85 people this year died from Spanish train accidents, and likely it will grow to 100 at the end of this day Very tragic and this makes Spanish trains one of the most dangerous modes of transport now ~100x more dangerous than flying commercial ~40x more dangerous than non-Spanish trains And every trip is nopw as dangerous as jumping from a plane and skydiving Two highly deadly train accidents in one year, that's so extreme and unlikely that it makes it at as dangerous as flying one of the most deadly airlines in the world, the Nepalese Yeti Airlines that keeps crashing due to the mountainous terrain Pretty exceptional in a bad way

Every chapter has an end. It's time to sunset StartupsBCN, the Slack community we started 11 years ago. At its peak, it was the online place to be in Barcelona, with thousands of members and many communities, events, coworking spaces curating their people and their content in StartupsBCN. In the recent years, it petered out and died a long, slow death. We could've done better, but we're grateful for everyone we've met through this community, the bonds it has created and... even families, in some cases! Full details here, on the @MarsBased podcast: youtube.com/watch?v=0FDLmtOc…

I really enjoyed this conversation with Álex. A few things we covered: 01:44 The “SaaSpocalypse”: is SaaS dying? 03:52 MCP: from side quest to two-thirds of traffic 04:52 Designing for agents and humans 08:14 What is engineering now? From bricklayer to architect 09:40 Why Amir is coding more than ever 11:46 Designers shipping code 13:29 The dark side: infinite side quests 14:46 Feature bloat and the power of subtraction 20:32 Tech debt spreads like a virus 21:33 Amir’s setup: Claude, Codex and cross-model review 25:45 Todoist OS and the subagent that stops hallucinations 29:21 Giving agents access to the data lake 30:35 Agents make Google Analytics and Ads usable again 33:41 “Chaos is a strategy” 35:21 AI beyond engineering: support and marketing 38:08 How the team shares what they learn 40:23 The time an agent wiped an AWS environment 42:31 Trusting agents with your email and calendar 45:45 AGI isn’t here yet 47:15 Agents running simulators and benchmarks 50:49 Three products with 110 people 52:36 Focus vs. side quests 57:02 Let the best ideas win
CEOs are coding again. This time, it's CEO time: @lexrodba sat down with Amir Salihefendic ( @amix3k ), CEO of @todoist , for the first time in person. Both of them are deep in the code.

Todoist's MCP started as a side quest by two engineers. Today it's two-thirds of their API traffic. The catch: tech debt spreads like a virus. Agents replicate whatever broken patterns you already have.

No es tan sencillo emitir en todas las plataformas, cada contenido necesita ser adaptado a su formato.

After 11 years, we’re closing Startups BCN. We started it in October 2015 as a Slack to keep the conversation going between Startup Grind Barcelona events.

Activity faded after the pandemic. We looked for someone to take it over, but no realistic plan came in, so we decided to close it properly instead of letting it linger.

You’ll also find why we think Rails is quietly winning the AI agent race, a few Claude Code tricks we actually use day to day, and a great talk by Matt Pocock on why PRs are the new bottleneck. Read it and subscribe here: marsbased.com/newsletter
