A persistent enemy of excellence is fragmented attention. On average, we check email 74x/day and switch tasks every 10min. Computers are made for parallel processing. Humans are better at serial processing. 2021 resolution: focus on one task at a time. fastcompany.com/944128/worke…

The US has performed its first double lung transplant for lung damage caused by #COVID19. The recipient is a 20 yr old woman. She remains on a ventilator at this time. The damage inflicted by #SARSCoV2 is stunning. Via @nytimes nytimes.com/2020/06/11/healt…

... for treatment of #COVID19 from this paper, be sure to notice that the effect size (odds ratio) is the same for #statins and ACEi, and ACEi were shown by the other 2 papers to not be associated with #COVID19 outcomes.

The authors describe a 69-year-old man with Covid-19 diagnosed in January 2020 in Wuhan, along with two other critically ill patients with Covid-19 who were also seen in the same ICU. Coagulopathy and antiphospholipid antibodies were seen in all three patients. #COVID19

Let me build this out a little more. The below doesn't quite convey just how alarming the case trajectories are in the US. We are in really, really bad shape, and getting worse.
How much worse could the US outbreak be than China's? Outside Wuhan/Hubei, every other Chinese province stayed under 1500 cases. The US already has 9 states with >1500 cases, and counting. China had one huge bonfire but prevented its sparks from setting off more. We haven't.

3 things I have learned about the #coronavirus crisis. 1. Hospitals are not the frontline in this war. You are. The medics treat the fallen. 2. The virus doesn’t spread. You spread it. 3. There is no medical solution yet (& maybe ever). You are the solution.

Higher co-infection rates (>20%) in COVID19 at Stanford med. Can't rely on stepwise triage algorithm. (E.g., Patient RSV or Flu+, enough chance of COVID19 that you can't rule it out) link.medium.com/alOn6PZLX4

What will go down as the biggest breakdown in the US response to #COVID19 is the lack of test kits. South Korea and the US had their 1st patients on Jan 20 and Jan 21, respectively. Look at the difference in daily testing. By March 4th, SK was ~18,000 per day.

COVID-19 Prep Update- March 14: Last night I was on with state & local officials around the US well into the night. By March 23 many of our largest cities & hospitals are on course to be overrun with cases. I am going to prepare a memo for them. I will share highlights here.1/
