30-yr mortgage rates are up ~1 point in a year (7.24%). The 10 other times since 1978: housing starts fell over the next year 7 times (median -5.7%), autos were flat, and a recession followed within 2 yrs 4 times.
Base case: a grind, not a crash. Not investment advice.
In all 3 housing-led recessions of the last 50 years (1980, 1990, 2007), auto sales fell more than 8% from a year earlier 7-17 months before the recession began.
Today autos are down 1.3% on that measure. The warning sign hasn't fired.
Housing and car sales move together: since 1977 their yearly changes have a 0.63 correlation.
Right now housing is 21% below its 2022 high (single-family starts, 12-mo avg). Auto sales are just 2.5% off their high. That gap matters.

How $MO grows with fewer smokers: Q3 cigarette shipments -2.9%, Marlboro -6.4%, yet smokeable revenue +3.7% and operating income +3.9%. Pricing still does the work.
Soft spot: Copenhagen -10%, Skoal -13%. on! pouches +13% but losing category share.
I own a small MO position.
$MO Q3: adjusted EPS $1.52 vs $1.51 expected. Revenue net of excise taxes $5.44B vs $5.31B expected. 2026 guidance raised to $5.66-$5.74, plus a $1B buyback expansion. Back to a beat after Q2's 2-cent miss.

For Oklo, achieving first criticality at our Groves Isotope Test Reactor was a milestone in reactor building experience. As CEO Jake Dewitte explains, it was an opportunity to “learn from it and make the next one better.”
In a conversation with @tboypod's @NickOfNewYork & @jackkramer, Jake discussed why successfully turning Oklo’s first reactor on is such an important step in Oklo’s journey toward deploying future reactors at speed and scale.

Where people see nuclear waste, Oklo sees a resource.
Oklo is developing fuel recycling technology to get more value from existing fuel sources, recover usable material to support future clean energy generation and reduce nuclear waste.
That means greater fuel availability, stronger resource efficiency, and lower energy costs over time.
