"People often think of gun violence as a single act committed by a single individual against a single victim. But that is not how communities experience it. A shooting is more like dropping a rock into a still lake. The impact point may be small, but the ripples spread outward in every direction. They reach parents who will never again hear their child's voice. They reach children who grow up without a mother or father. They reach neighbors who no longer feel safe on their own streets. They reach teachers, pastors, business owners and entire neighborhoods, who are forced to carry the weight of trauma long after the crime scene tape comes down.” - Chief Patterson
Today we pause to remember those lost to gun violence and to support the families and communities forever changed. On National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we join residents, advocates and agencies across the country in promoting responsible gun ownership, education and safety. We're stronger when we work together. Joined by our partners at the @FBICharlotte, @USAO_WDNC, @ATFCharlotte, @DEAHQ, @MeckSheriff, @CMSPOLICE and @CharMeckDA, we spoke out about our steadfast commitment in fighting gun violence and highlighted the initiatives and partnerships being utilized as we work to keep our community safe.
Operation Queen City Safe delivered significant disruption of criminal activity across key corridors in our Central Division this past weekend through strategic enforcement efforts and incredible collaboration! Officers worked proactively to curb narcotics activity, take illegal firearms out of circulation and intervene with individuals contributing to violence.
This effort was only possible through our strong partnerships with NCSHP, ALE, Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, Department of Juvenile Justice, PSS Cats Security, Mecklenburg County ABC and Mecklenburg County Parks and Rec. Together, we expanded enforcement capabilities and strengthened safety across our community. Thank you to everyone committed to keeping Charlotte safe!
