After 20+ years behind the mic, I'll say it plainly: radio is still the most direct line from a team to its fans. It's in the car, on the job site, on the tractor. No paywall, no login, just a voice painting the picture. Baseball was built for that, and it still is. The game in its purest form.

Every year on 9/11 I take the kids to ground zero to write down names engraved in the memorial. Then we go home and look them up to talk about their stories. Today, my youngest was writing a name when a woman walked up and asked her what she was doing. When she explained, the woman gently asked “will you write down my son’s name too?” We spent the next few minutes talking to Morton Frank’s mother about his life. He was 31. When I asked her how she was holding up on the 25th anniversary she teared up and said, “same as every other day.” #neverforget

On 9/11, two unarmed F-16 pilots from Andrews Air Force Base were ordered to stop Flight 93 before it reached Washington.
1st Lt. Heather “Lucky” Penney and Lt. Col. Marc Sasseville had no missiles - there wasn’t time to load them. Their plan was to ram the airliner: Sasseville into the cockpit, Penney into the tail.
They launched around 10:30 a.m. Flight 93 had already gone down in Pennsylvania 25–30 minutes earlier after the passengers fought back. The two pilots never intercepted it.
Most people know what the passengers did.
Almost no one knows two fighter pilots were already in the air ready to die doing the same job.
