If you spend 14yrs stripping away support for the Police, the NHS, Councils, Schools, Community Centres, Libraries, the Fire Service, Social Services etc then you get a society that's broken. Stop blaming migrants, blame the Tories, they broke Britain & it'll take years to fix.

This is Casino Capitalism in action - global commodity markets are the prime example, the price of oil is driven by fear, sentiment, speculation - it’s detached from the fundamental cost of production.
Why do we allow it?
It’s a zero sum game after all, those record profits come from record high energy bills and record levels of poverty. They are not fairly won, there’s no genius or bold business act behind them, it’s immoral to allow this system to persist. Britain should end it for our North Sea production, we can set the price of our own oil and gas according to the cost of production plus a reasonable profit margin.
That would save us £10 Billion a year on average - and protect jobs and investments already made - and allow a 10% profit margin - guaranteed.
Peoplenomics.

May those who live, work or holiday on top of this have nightmares about what lies beneath them. May they imagine the cries of the dying and may it keep them awake at night.

I cannot wrap my head around the endgame here. If you destroy the planet, crash the global economy, and leave ordinary people too broke to buy anything, what exactly are billionaires planning to do with all that money? Sit in underground bunkers staring at bank balances while the world falls apart? Wealth is only valuable when there's a functioning society around it. So what exactly are they trying to win?

Massive congrats to my friend @IsabellaMWeber for her excellent new book out in the UK this week. We need it today more than ever. As many of us have been arguing, a different economy is possible—-but it must be fought for. Also great review in the @guardian today: theguardian.com/business/202…

This guy utterly dismantles the populist politics of Reform and Restore in 90 seconds. It’s actually quite beautiful.
Take decades of deep-rooted problems in Britain and convince people that a relatively tiny proportion of the population is responsible for all of them. Housing, the NHS, crime. Blame illegal migrants for everything.
Suddenly, you don’t need credible solutions to the housing crisis, NHS waiting lists or crime. You just need increasingly extreme policies on immigration.
And by the time people realise you never had meaningful answers to the vast majority of Britain’s problems, you’re already in power, handing out tax cuts to your donors.

I was pleased to record this podcast with the Civil Service Climate & Environment Network, answering questions about our work, why we do it & the context.

While predatory elites - which have made Israel's genocide in Gaza a model and flourishing business - conquer political seats everywhere (credit post-Cold War "leftist" parties for paving the way), global civil society organises in unprecedented ways for accoutability.
🇵🇸 Israel Exposed, the anonymous collective behind one of the largest online archives of Gaza genocide documentation, has released a map placing more than 35,200 videos and photos at the locations in Gaza where they were filmed.
Every geolocated clip links to its original post and source. Users can filter by area, date and type of attack, and overlay UN satellite damage assessments (UNOSAT). The full dataset is downloadable.
The group launched its archive in July with more than 64,500 videos and 17,900 photos and says more footage will be added.

I refuse to even think about claims that chatbots are conscious beings whose rights must be protected until I live in a society where all humans are treated as conscious beings whose rights must be protected.

Trickle-down economics was always a sham.
Nothing has ever trickled down.
NAOMI KLIEIN to SAM ALTMAN:
"...you ingested the entire written output of human civilization without consent, without compensation and without credit to build a system whose primary commercial application is eliminating the jobs of the people whose work you consumed.
You are not 'liberating human creativity' -- you are strip-mining it and selling it back at a markup while calling the theft 'training data'."

Digitisation is regressing society and called it progress.
You used to walk into a bank and talk to a human who knew what a cheque was. Now you need three apps, a password you can’t remember, a text code that arrives after you’ve already locked yourself out, verification by winning an online grid game to spot blurred traffic lights or motorbikes and a chatbot that says “I understand your frustration” while understanding nothing specific about your enquiry.
What we actually got is a world where you need an app, wifi signal, two passwords, a QR code that expired 47 seconds ago, and a phone with 2% battery to buy a sandwich.
We used to lose our keys. Now we lose access to our own phones because the app decided our face looks “suspicious” at 6:14am with a hangover.
You used to get lost and ask a stranger. Now you stare at a blue dot on a GPS map until the signal dies and discover you have no idea which way is north.
Customer service used to exist. Now it is a FAQ written by someone who has never used the product, followed by “would you like to take a short survey?” after they have already failed to help you.
We replaced paper maps with phones that need signal, paper tickets with apps that crash at the barrier, paper books with subscriptions that vanish when the company “updates its terms,” and monstrosity AI data centres built on beautiful countryside while guzzling up energy and water to construct AI memes while we get a hosepipe bans when it’s sunny for a few days every summer.
We ended up living in a society that cannot function if the Wi-Fi is down, friends that often socialise more through WhatsApp groups than meeting in a pub and the elderly who need their children to log into the NHS so they can see a doctor.
Digitalisation didn’t make life smarter. It made life brittle, time consuming and dependent on a rectangle that spies on you while charging you £12.99 a month.
Digital has automated the human out of the human experience and called it user experience efficiency. Bring back the queue. At least the queue had people in it.
Banks close branches. GPs move bookings onto apps. Parking, tickets, menus, council tax, pensions, TV channels - all requiring verification via another QR code.
We digitised the world and somehow made everyday life feel like trying to assemble IKEA furniture while the instructions keep auto-updating and the allen key requires two-factor authentication.
Congratulations. We are now less free, more tracked, constantly interrupted, and still late because the parking app crashed. But at least we successfully found the three burred traffic lights on a “verify you are a human and not a robot” to access our own electricity bill…

This summer, Reform-led Kent County Council voted to include Oaken Wood in its minerals plan.
If approved, at least 41 hectares of this ancient woodland would be destroyed, making it the largest loss of ancient woodland in England this century.
At a time when our nature is already under pressure, we can’t afford to lose woodlands habitats like Oaken Wood.
That’s why I’ve signed @CHinchliffMP's letter calling on the Government to save Oaken Wood and strengthen protections for ancient woodland across England.

Tory MP Helen Whately is a millionaire on a £98,599/yr salary. Yet taxpayers cover her London second home expenses. Council Tax, water, electric, everything! Meanwhile, she wants to cut benefits for disabled people living on just £7k to £11k a year. Look how much she claims....
