Cool Florida Winter - But ironically Record Warm Earth!
The Winter ahead looks cool in the Southern US. BUT importantly - NOT cold. It’s one of the only places on Earth that will be cooler than normal this winter. This map is called the “Super Ensemble” - it’s a mix of 10 of the World’s best seasonal computer models. This shows a clear signal of a strong winter subtropical jet stream across the US South - a common feature of El Niño - and this one has record shattering warmth in the El Niño Pacific.
This means: Cool - but few, if any, freezes for #Florida.
**Nothing like last winter**. To the contrary there will be frequent cool fronts, extra cloud cover, much above normal rain but not rainy all the time. And most of these fronts will have moderated cool air behind them, but the air won’t come from Canada, it will come from the Pacific.
Elsewhere the planet will experience its warmest month in modern history in February. El Niño would have peaked in December, and there’s a couple of month lag in warming the Earth. The average Global surface temps will be around +2C beyond pre-industrial levels for the first time on record and and very likely higher than anything in 120,000 years (before the last Ice Age). #ElNino #climatechange

It’s official, the 2026 El Niño has broken a record for the highest ocean anomaly in 170+ years… Incredibly reaching that threshold a full 2 months ahead of 2015’s record of +3.02C set on Nov 18th.
See that red line? That’s 2026.
Every other bold line are the strongest El Niño’s on record.
2026 is in a league of its own.

Over the last 12 hours, two US and Israeli drones were reportedly shot down by Iranian air defences over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Army air defences shot down an Israeli "Orbiter" drone over the Strait of Hormuz, with the debris falling in a coastal area of southeastern Iran.
The IRGC claims that a couple of hours ago, a U.S. MQ-1C drone was shot down, although this hasn't been visually confirmed.

Have Ukraine and Russia found a common enemy?
Witkoff has somehow managed to frustrate both Kyiv and Moscow — yet Trump is still keeping him at the center of the negotiations.
According to the Kyiv Independent, several players are trying to sideline U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and weaken his close channel with Kremlin representative Kirill Dmitriev.
Kyiv is reportedly unhappy with Witkoff’s poor grasp of the war and the territorial issues, while Moscow believes he sometimes misrepresents Russia’s position when briefing Trump.
And Trump? Trump seems perfectly happy with all of it.
Another triumph for the AfD: right-wing populists win elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and come third in Berlin
This is a crushing defeat for Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s party: in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the CDU failed to enter the state parliament for the first time.
In Berlin, the Left came first with 25.7%. The CDU received 18.8%, the AfD — 16.3%, the Greens — 14.3%, and the SPD — 12.1%.
Coalition talks will now take place in both regions. State elections do not directly change the composition of the federal government or Germany’s foreign policy.
For the CDU, this is already its third defeat in state elections this year.
Earlier, AfD co-chair Alice Weidel promised that if the party comes to power in Germany, it would first end support for Ukraine and restore relations with Russia, including resuming gas purchases.
Press declares boycott of Trump
The largest U.S. television networks, including Fox News, ABC News, CBS News, CNN, and NBC News, have announced a suspension of coverage of events involving the president.
The decision was a protest against the White House’s refusal to grant several media outlets access to the president.
It was previously reported that Trump banned CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from working in the White House after his aide Natalie Harp showed him a selection of critical articles and television broadcasts.
President to be sued
CNN, MS NOW, and Politico will sue the Trump administration after the White House revoked the accreditation of their journalists.
Media representatives said they had become targets of pressure because of their journalistic work. The journalists argue that the decision violates the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Trump, in turn, said the White House is not required to grant access to outlets that publish negative coverage of his administration.
The president called such media outlets “fake news” and said they pose a threat to U.S. national security.
Will Turkey enter the war?
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the country could provide support to Saudi Arabia against the Houthis. But he did not say when this would happen.
The Houthis have already threatened Turkey and Pakistan with strikes if they intervene on Riyadh’s behalf.

The Trump administration is preparing sweeping sanctions against the International Criminal Court that would bar most transactions with the ICC and could effectively cut it off from the U.S. dollar and much of the global financial system, the WSJ reports. The measures could be finalized as soon as this week.

Internal documents reviewed by the Washington Post reveal the Trump administration has authorized or pledged at least $410M across 31 countries to expand its third-country deportation network. The new "Office of Remigration" has deported at least 25,000 individuals to 28 third countries.

Trump decided against ordering U.S. airstrikes on Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis for now, after briefly telling the Pentagon to prepare strikes following a personal appeal from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to administration officials cited by the New York Times. The nation's major television networks are declining to participate in White House pool duties going forward. Fox News Washington Bureau Chief Bryan Boughton confirmed the move in an email to TV pool subscribers, saying there will be no replacement pool put in place. The decision follows the Trump administration's move to bar CNN, MS NOW, and POLITICO from White House access, which began Saturday when journalists from all three outlets were denied entry and had their credentials confiscated by the Secret Service.
CNN was scheduled to serve as the TV pool Monday, but a White House guidance email sent Sunday night listed no TV pool at all, naming Hearst and the pro-Trump Real America's Voice as secondary crews instead. It is unclear whether footage from those outlets will be distributed as broadly as traditional pool coverage.
The move could complicate coverage of Trump's activities at the UN General Assembly this week, since the pool system exists specifically to share footage when space is limited. POLITICO, CNN, and MS NOW filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to restore their access.
