Korean vampire clubber, Indian succubus, and more. Card art I painted for AEG's Nightfall game back in 2012. Which one would you least want to meet after dark?
Art direction on the guide by @ChaosiumJeff . One of the most detailed briefs I've ever worked from.
Guide to Glorantha, 2012 and 2013. I drew more than 20 illustrations for it, and I knew nothing about the world going in.
Greg Stafford built Glorantha from mythology, not fantasy novels, and you feel it in every brief. Whole cultures, gods, runes and tattoos, all with history behind them. Characters like Herak and Gunda have stories that go back decades.
It felt like a historical illustration assignment. Some of my favourite work from that era. The Guide went on to win the 2015 Diana Jones Award.

Granamyr disapproves.
I watched the new MOTU movie on @KevinLamb74’s rave reviews. My kids and I both had He-Man birthday parties. I really wanted to love this movie, but it just sucks. It felt like bad community theater with a budget.
Rent it once, if you must.
One week until Annals of the Auran Empire launches from Autarch on Nov 3.
I painted the Shadowblade cover, classic fantasy done the old way. Can’t wait to see it out in the world. @archon

An old sketch from years ago, just for fun: how I thought a beholder could look, with all ten eye rays. I always found this particular monster to be facinating and fun. Which eye ray would you least want to be hit by? #Beholder #DnD #FantasyArt #MonsterArt #TTRPG
I’ve worked as a storyboard artist in the ad industry for years. All day I draw scenes like this one: people talking, reacting, selling something.
This time I “used my powers for good” and storyboarded one just for me!
As a kid I drew because I wanted to be in the adventure. I’m still that kid, just older.
So here I am, watching Lord of the Rings with Professor Tolkien. A pint each, the Argonath on the screen, and him telling me what he really thought of the film.
Imagination isn’t something you outgrow. Don’t be afraid to play, to put yourself in the story and to draw what you love. Keep having fun with your art.
Have you ever imagined watching the Lord of the Rings movies with their author?
What would you ask him?

I'm now drawing these for other people too. One cinematic frame with you in the scene, B&W or color, digital or a hand-drawn original. Details: mikeperryart.com/commissions
DL5 Dragons of Mystery was one of the first modules I ever bought, along with DL4 and DL6. It's well loved. Around grade 7 I loved Larry Elmore's artwork so much that I colored it in with Laurentian markers to make it even better. At the back I also filled out the TSR questionnaire. I checked "Yes, I am a Dragonlance game DM," and when asked why I wasn't in a campaign I wrote "Because everybody wants me as the Dungeon Master." Swipe to see what 12-year-old me thought. What was your first module?
