Map of estimated turnout of the adult population in the 1940 US Presidential Election. The strong effects of Jim Crow voting restrictions & poll taxes are visible (see the WV/VA border!), with less than 10% of the adult population voting in some Southern counties (dark orange):

This national precinct map of where Trump 2024 or Republican party registration is stronger is a good marker for ancestral D/R places.

The town of Twin Peaks is the archetypical "Perot town": White, high-elevation, remote, full of weirdos. He definitely got at least 35% there.
Replying to @PoliticalKiwi
that would be right in 2024, but not anymore, as democrats are very strong with low propensity voters in our polls

no 24 primary: trump+16 recall, peltola+9
Saturday will be one of the hottest days of the year for the entire Bay Area. Downtown San Francisco is forecast to reach 94°F in the afternoon, while Ocean Beach, just over 6 miles to the west, is expected to be in the low 60s.
The Outer Sunset and Outer Richmond could briefly climb into the 80s around noon before the sea breeze kicks in during the afternoon.
Welcome to Indian Summer.

Kentucky's constitution makes it very hard to create a new county. Technically you could do it but it would look like this

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

The Green Party might actually flip a state legislative district for the first time in...who knows when? Certainly hasn't happened in 10 years.
A chaotic three-way race has emerged in Hawaii's #HD14 (Lahaina) between a Democrat-turned-Republican incumbent, a Democrat, and a Green Party candidate who has attracted a LOT of union/progressive support.
Pure toss-up here, expect chaos.

Fun fact: Israel is home to two predominantly Muslim, non-Arab communities: Kfar Kama and Rehaniya, founded by Circassian exiles in the 19th century.
And their voting patterns are quite distinctive 👇

The Impact of Independent Observers
A revealing table published by Russian lawyer Ekaterina Gulenkova shows a striking difference between polling stations with observers and without them.
The three polling stations in the comparison are located in the same school — a common arrangement in Russian cities — making major differences in the composition of their electorates unlikely. Yet their reported turnout and party results differ substantially, in some cases by multiples rather than percentage points.
🛠️ Key Differences:
🔴 Turnout drops by over 20–24 percent as soon as an independent observer enters the precinct (from ~52–56% down to 32.37%).
🔴 Support for the #UnitedRussia plummets from an inflated 55–63% down to a real 24.59%.
🔴 Other parties, including more “oppositional” ones, #NewPeople and #CPRF more than double in proportion.
This is exactly why the #Kremlin has spent years dismantling independent election observation.

Turnout Was Inflated by 17%, United Russia’s Vote by 23% — Experts Estimate
According to calculations by Petr Zhizhin, based on the election data he analyzed, Russia’s actual turnout was around 40%, while United Russia received about 35% of valid ballots.
Official figures reported by the CEC were significantly higher:
📊 Official turnout — 57%
🐻 United Russia — 58%
Based on these estimates, turnout was inflated by around 17 percentage points, while United Russia’s result was increased by around 23% relative to the estimated number of valid ballots.
Electoral expert Roman Udot @romanik_ notes that the use of "administrative resource" in Russian elections has traditionally been estimated at around 15–20%.
