Just to end this conversation, I have exactly one Indigenous Purépecha great grandmother who was happily married to my Criollo great grandfather from Michoacán. The rest of my family is from Spanish California going back to 1775. Your struggle ain't mine.

It's clear why she governs Mexico even as a non-Mexican. She comes across as more intelligent and less crass than most of the paisas who live there. Paisas spent their time attacking Chicanos, but this president actually congratulated the two most powerful Chicanos in America.

The Californio is perhaps one of the greatest Hispanic archetypes. While Criollos in central Mexico looted and destroyed New Spain, the Californio Criollo was a loyal patriot defending the frontier of the Spanish Empire. They were landed gentry, vaqueros & presidio militiamen.

That was always an optimistic message, one we were trying to bring into existence. What will actually happen is that the US will become Brazil. Things will get a little worse year after year, and it will be global because global growth was mostly just the diffusion of anglosphere/American tech, not any inventions of their own. So things grind down, blame becomes an increasingly attractive emotion, which accelerates the process.
All slow enough to avoid rebellion. Gentle slide into sleep, and then death.

The paisa mind cannot comprehend this. In Mexico, they insult people by calling them Indigenous slurs and they think White Americans hate Indigenous people like they do.
But in America, Americans think Indigenous people and history are cool. We just don't larp as fake Aztecs to have a victim card like what paisa do.
