Went to my old friend's funeral this week and also wrote about him in today's newspaper column in the WMN and WDP - but here's one I did earlier about a remarkable man

This is a brilliant piece of journalism - literally deconstructing the latest Russian strike drone, explaining how it works and where the components needed to make it work are being sourced by Russia, even after 4+ years of war
RFE/RL takes apart a Russian Geran-4 drone to uncover what makes the jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) faster, harder to intercept, and capable of operating deep inside Ukraine -- from its turbojet engine and advanced camera to foreign-made communications and navigation components. @cxemu @radiosvoboda

A very happy 91st to the great Arvo Pärt! On his music:
"In art everything is possible, but everything is not necessary.”
“This music is about the silence. The sounds are there to surround the silence.”
“I had to get rid of everything unnecessary…in order to save myself.”

With the heroes of the @RNLI under attack again, I’m reminded of this passage from Bill Bryson.
ALT I had never really stopped to consider what an extraordinary thing the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is. Think about it. A troubled ship calls for help, and eight people - teachers, plumbers, the guy who runs the pub - drop everything and put to sea, whatever the weather, asking no questions, imperilling their own lives, to try to help strangers. Is there anything more brave and noble than that? The RNLI - I looked this up later - is an organization run by volunteers, supported entirely by public donations. It maintains 233 stations around the coast of Britain and averages twenty-two call-outs per day. It saves 350 lives a year on average.

Our charity exists to save lives at sea. Our mission is to save every one. Our lifesavers are compelled to help those in need without judgement of how they came to be in the water. They have done so since the RNLI was founded in 1824 and this will always be our ethos.

Can someone please explain to me why the BBC give such prominence to Reform back of fag packet policies when parties with far more MPs rarely get a look in. I would love to know the judgement applied.

Great opportunity to come and join the @bbcproms for 12 months, as we prepare for our centenary season in 2027. You don't necessarily need bags of experience; just an eye for detail, a love of classical music, and a hardworking approach. Full details: careers.bbc.co.uk/job/Market…
