A colleague b shared such a vulnerable post. The comments where sobering- colleagues speaking of not having worked in two years, how the collapse of the film incentive has completely halted what little international work kept so many afloat for so long, voice work drying up

📺 SABC: Interrogation Room (2004–2008) This was the 10-year anniversary of democracy. The SAPS Women's Network had just been established (2003), leadership programmes reserved 70% of places for women, and employment equity targets sought to increase women's representation. Captain Thandiswa Skweyiya(Nambitha Mpumlwana) wasn't appearing in a vacuum she emerged alongside a real national project of reimagining who could embody state authority. Unlike many contemporary readings of representation, the series does not simply place a Black woman in a position of power and move on. Instead, it repeatedly stages the resistance to that transformation. What I particularly appreciate is that the series never portrays Captain Skweyiya as flawless. She is intelligent but fallible, compassionate but disciplined, emotionally affected by her work without losing professional authority. This complexity matters because representation is most transformative when characters are allowed to be fully human rather than symbolic ideals. Streaming on @SABCPlus #womensmonth

Please help me wish my dad a happy birthday today!!! My dad never promised to be perfect. My dad promised to keep his promises. 41 years and he has not reneged. I just checked my accounts and his running tab is paid in full. My dad has kept every promise he has made and continues to make. Growing up my father used to say to me, ‘Saysay, a promise is there’, and he would look at me, waiting for my eager 6 year old response, ‘a promise is kept’. My father’s boldest lesson to me was to teach me to honour my word. He taught me about the power of the truth. Please join me in celebrating, my father, Prof. Thami Mazwai. If you happen to see him today, please shout, ‘a promise is there’, and let’s see if he responds as he taught me, how he showed me to. For all those asking, why is she telling us she is an alcoholic? Why is she not retaining her anonymity, as she can? I’ve always lived my life publicly. I don’t see that changing. I’m an alcoholic. That’s the truth. To ask me to keep this to myself, is to ask me to go against my most treasured value. Honesty. This is me guys. I see people leaving and that’s ok. Let’s fill the room with people who love the ugliest truths about themselves. #nomisupasta #surrender #nextweektuesday #inspiration #newmusicfriday

A curfew on girls does not make society safer. It merely forces women to carry the burden of male behaviour. If anyone needs to be home by 8 pm, perhaps it’s the gender making the streets unsafe.
