American big tech firms are bad at building things because their focus is not on building things, it’s on monopolization and political power. No different than Boeing. This has been obvious for years. thebignewsletter.com/p/natio…

Deepseek R1 is one of the most amazing and impressive breakthroughs I’ve ever seen — and as open source, a profound gift to the world. 🤖🫡

i’ve been running deepseek locally (i have a highest end mac studio) for few days, & it’s absolutely on par with o1 or sonnet. i’ve been using it nonstop for coding and other tasks, & what would’ve cost me a fortune through api’s is now completely free. this feels like a total paradigm shift.

Kids, here's Panthers general manager Dan Morgan sealing Carolina's first NFC Title. He jumped the route of former Panthers RB coach Duce Staley for the INT.

For those confused why the US state and Silicon Valley are having a meltdown on twitter today. China released multiple AI models that are 50x more efficient than the best American AI models and made them open source, ruining the AI market

Satellite photo this morning: Bright sunshine showing the frozen tundra of the Deep South from Houston, Texas to New Orleans, and South Georgia. So much snow covering the ground -- historic!

Here's my first call map for tomorrow & Wednesday's winter storm in the Carolinas. Given the forcing mechanisms in place here (warm advection & isentropic upgrade) & knowing how models tend to handle these, I'm expecting the ongoing north trend on most models to generally continue up to near verification. The greatest chance for significant accumulating snow in the Carolinas exists from about the US-1 + I-95 corridors & points eastward. Snow may also mix with sleet along the coast. ☃️❄️ #ncwx #scwx

The Founding Fathers thought Canada should join the U.S. at some point, so the Articles of Confederation contained an article expressly permitting Canada to join if it wished.

Defaults on US credit card loans have hit the highest level since the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, in a sign that lower-income consumers’ financial health is waning after years of high inflation, per FT.
