π¨ UK VISA ALERT: IMPORTANT DEADLINE FOR SOME SPONSORED WORKERS π¬π§
NDIUK is drawing membersβ attention to an important change affecting some Skilled Worker visa holders in the UK.
The UK Government has confirmed that the Immigration Salary List (ISL) will close on 31 December 2026. The Temporary Shortage List (TSL) also has time-limited provisions for certain medium-skilled occupations.
β οΈ Why should you pay attention?
The date your first Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) was assigned could be crucial to your future immigration options.
πΉ If your first Skilled Worker CoS was assigned before 22 July 2025: You may qualify for transitional arrangements that preserve certain options for visa extensions, changing employers and settlement, provided you meet the relevant requirements.
πΉ If your first Skilled Worker CoS was assigned on or after 22 July 2025: If your job falls within the affected occupations, you may face restrictions on extending your visa or changing employers in that role after the relevant list provisions close.
πΉ If you are currently sponsored in a medium-skilled role: Do not assume that your visa will automatically be cancelled at the end of 2026. However, you should establish how the changes affect your particular occupation and future applications.
π WHAT SHOULD YOU DO NOW?
β
Check the occupation code on your CoS.
β
Confirm the date your first Skilled Worker CoS was assigned.
β
Review your visa expiry date and the requirements for any future extension or change of employment.
β
Seek advice from a qualified immigration adviser if your continued stay depends on these provisions.
Important: These changes do not affect every visa holder in the same way. Your occupation, sponsorship history and applicable immigration rules all matter. Do not make major employment or immigration decisions based solely on social media posts.
π’ NDIUK encourages all affected members to check their individual circumstances and plan ahead rather than wait until the deadline approaches.

π¬π§ NDIUK EXPLAINS: UK BUDGET 2026 β WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU
π’ Chancellor John Healey has delivered the UK Budget. Here are the key announcements Nigerians living in the UK should know about.
The Budget focuses on the cost of living, energy bills, wages, transport, savings and housing. But what does it mean for you and your family?
π· 1. Β£100 energy payment for eligible households
Up to 20 million households in England in Council Tax bands AβD are due to receive a one-off Β£100 Household Energy Payment from January 2027. Funding will also be provided to devolved governments for support elsewhere in the UK.
β‘ 2. Changes to energy bills
The temporary VAT cut on electricity bills will be extended until 1 July 2027, with an estimated saving of around Β£50 against the annual energy price cap in April 2027.
The Government will also ask Ofgem to abolish gas standing charges and move those costs into unit rates. This could give households more control over their bills, although individual savings will vary.
π 3. Fuel duty remains frozen
The 5p-per-litre fuel duty cut will be extended until 1 July 2027, alongside a delay to the planned fuel duty increase. This should help motorists and businesses manage fuel costs.
πΌ 4. National Minimum Wage increase
From April 2027, the National Minimum Wage is set to rise to:
β’ Β£13.21 per hour for workers aged 21 and over.
β’ Β£11.27 per hour for workers aged 18β20.
The increase will be particularly relevant to workers in retail, hospitality, care and other sectors where hourly pay is common.
π¦ 5. Cash ISA allowance protected
The planned reduction in the annual Cash ISA allowance has been scrapped. The tax-free savings limit will remain at Β£20,000 a year for everyone.
However, tax on savings income and property income is due to increase by two percentage points from April 2027. The impact will depend on your circumstances and the income involved.
π‘ 6. Help for first-time homebuyers
The Government has announced a new First Time Buyer ISA, additional funding for social and affordable housing, and changes to the Lifetime ISA withdrawal charge to help first-time buyers purchasing properties above the existing Β£450,000 price cap.
These measures may be worth exploring if buying your first home is part of your plans.
π 7. Support for people who drive for work
From April 2027, the tax-free mileage rate for using your own car or van for work will increase from 25p to 35p per mile for business travel above 10,000 miles. This could benefit eligible employees and self-employed workers who use their vehicles for business.
π WHAT SHOULD NIGERIANS IN THE UK TAKE AWAY FROM THIS BUDGET?
The announcements offer some relief on energy and motoring costs, alongside higher minimum wages and changes to savings and housing support.
However, the benefits will not be the same for everyone. Eligibility matters, some measures will not take effect until 2027, and increases in certain taxes could affect some households and property owners.
The important thing is to understand which changes apply to your circumstances and plan your finances accordingly.
π¬ NDIUK WANTS TO HEAR FROM YOU!
Do you think this Budget will make life more affordable for ordinary working families in the UK, including Nigerians in the diaspora? Or is more needed to address the cost of living, rent, mortgages, childcare and everyday expenses?

BABA SEGI AT FILM AFRICA | EBONYLIFE PLACE LONDON π¬
What an incredible evening we had on 26 October at EbonyLife Place London!
It was truly a dream come true to host the official @FilmAfrica screening of The Secret Lives of Baba Segiβs Wives at our cultural home in London.
The energy in the room was electric! The audience response, the feedback and the conversations afterwards were simply priceless. And one little thing that made us smile was how many people independently used the same word to describe the film: AMAZING! AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING! Even in this video, the word keeps coming up. I think that says it all! π
@dadaomowunmi and I were incredibly proud to represent our film. A huge thank you to @Zainab__Balogun, @kunleafolayan, @seunsoyinka and all our wonderful guests for coming out to support us. And to my dear friend @FreemantleEryca, thank you for your continued love and support.
A special thank you to @FilmAfrica, @StelAgePositive and @KeithShiri for choosing EbonyLife Place London as one of the festivalβs screening venues. What a beautiful celebration of African storytelling!
