📣 Over 100,000 people are employed across the UK civil nuclear industry for the first time in history 👷♀️
Today the Nuclear Industry Association launched our 2026 Jobs Map. This year’s figures show a 67% growth in the civil nuclear workforce over the past five years, from 61,371 jobs in 2021 to a record 102,606 in 2026. 📈
🏗️ This unprecedented employment has been driven by construction at Hinkley Point C and decisive government investment in @sizewellc, as well as the development of Europe’s first Small Modular Reactors with Project Gwyndod in North Wales.
The Government must now ensure the swift implementation of nuclear regulation reform, to unlock future projects and continue this monumental growth of the nuclear workforce.

📢 New data shows that September's constraints cost for Scotland reached £342.43 million, breaking the previous record only set in March 2026 ⚡
This new record accounted for 61.9% of Great Britain's total balancing costs, despite Scotland accounting for less than 10% of our electricity consumption...📈
NESO has predicted that balancing costs could double again by the end of the decade unless more transmission capacity is deployed.

🌍 We’re on tour! ✈️
Last week, we took the new NIA International Guide to the UK Nuclear Industry to the World Nuclear Supply Chain conference in Manila.
🤝 The guide, created in collaboration with the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, is an excellent tool to promote our member companies' skills and capabilities to overseas markets.
We’ll be taking this on the road to international events, sending it to affiliate trade associations worldwide, and distributing it to international companies requesting information ¾ showcasing everything the UK has to offer the nuclear industry globally.
View the International Guide here: 🔗 niauk.org/nia-international-…
📣 Did you miss out? 📣
We’re now collecting submissions from NIA members who would like to appear in future editions of the International Guide. A revision will be issued in January 2027, and we’ll make updates every six months moving forward.
If you would like to be included in the January release, simply download and complete the form here (niauk.org/wp-content/uploads…) and return it to [email protected] by 1 December 2026.

Lets go beyond the numbers. Read below what the 3,000 new jobs in Ynys Môn and a further 5,000 across the UK mean to those working on the project. 👇
Hear from:
⚛️ Anna Lewis from @GBNgovuk, who leapt at the opportunity to work on Gwyndod and follow in her Grandfather’s footsteps on the Wylfa site
🏗️ Tommy Evans from Rolls-Royce SMR, who has seen first-hand the difference nuclear can make to individuals, families and communities
⚡Ellis Jones from Boccard UK, who is developing highly specialised skills thanks to the UK’s major engineering projects

📣 Today, the Nuclear Industry Association and Wales Nuclear Forum launched our first Wales Jobs Map, showing that the civil nuclear industry in Wales currently supports 2,210 jobs.
This employment is set to more than double as Project Gwyndod, Europe's first Small Modular Reactors, continues development. 📈
🏗️ The nuclear project on Ynys Môn, led by Great British Energy - Nuclear and Rolls-Royce SMR, can become the foundation for a new era of growth, building on the country's established nuclear expertise.
Beyond employment and investment, Gwyndod will provide 1.4 GW of homegrown, low-carbon power to the UK grid, with each SMR providing enough electricity to power 1 million homes for more than 60 years. ⚛️

⚛️ 70 Years After Pioneering Nuclear Power, the UK Must Reclaim Its Global Leadership 🌍
On the 17th of October 1956, the UK made history when Queen Elizabeth II officially opened Calder Hall, the worlds first full-scale commercial nuclear power station, beginning a new age of sovereign, reliable, low-carbon electricity for the country and across the globe.
Seven decades on, the UK’s nuclear fleet has:
⚡ Generated 3,224 terawatt-hours of electricity, equal to around 11 years of the UK’s electricity demand at modern consumption levels
🌱 Avoided an estimated 2.4 billion tonnes of carbon emissions, the most of any electricity source in UK history
However, as 10 power stations retired without replacement, nuclear output has fallen from 25% in the late 1990s to 12.3% today. 📉
As the UK’s civil nuclear industry enters a new era of growth with record employment, decisive investment, and world-leading technology, it is essential to fully implement the Nuclear Regulatory Review to cut costs and deployment timelines. 🏗️
“We must not look back in 70 years and regret missing this opportunity.”

Cross-party support for new nuclear in Scotland on display in Parliament ⚛️
@mpsusanmurray, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Scotland, led a Westminster Hall debate on the future of nuclear energy in Scotland, highlighting the strong cross-party support for new nuclear.
Contributions highlighted the jobs and investment opportunities the sector could bring, alongside the need for reliable, clean baseload power. @Jamie4North made the case for new nuclear at Scotland’s former nuclear sites, @DLumsden_MP highlighted public support, and @melanie_ward, Minister for Scotland, underlined why nuclear should be part of Scotland’s future, not just its past.
It was fantastic to see figures from the Nuclear Industry Association’s 2026 Civil Nuclear Jobs Map referenced throughout the debate.
Thank you to the MPs who contributed to the lively debate. We will continue to champion new nuclear in Scotland and the opportunities it can deliver for communities across the country.

📣 Today marks a historic new chapter for Hinkley Point B as the nuclear power station is transferred from @edfenergy to the @NDAgovuk group for decommissioning.
Hinkley Point B was the most productive clean power asset in UK history when it finished, generating:
📈 £15bn worth of economic value to the UK
⚡ Enough electricity to power every home in the South West for 33 years
🏭 Low-carbon electricity which avoided 108m tonnes of CO2 emissions
To deliver the safe, secure decommissioning of the site with @NRServicesUK’ knowledge and expertise, 250 well-paid, skilled jobs will remain in the local community.

"Just imagine, just imagine where Britain could be today if we had moved faster. If we had invested earlier. If we had taken more control."
Yesterday at the Labour Party Conference @Miatsf, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, celebrated the significant growth of the UK civil nuclear industry, which now employs 102,606 people across the UK. ⚛️
🏗️ To build on this momentum, we need the Nuclear Regulation Bill to proceed at pace, to modernise our fragmented nuclear oversight, reduce project costs, and speed up construction.
