Stop comparing the conditions the IDF faced in Gaza to those faced by the US and allied forces in Mosul. The IDF had to operate under conditions that were orders of magnitude more challenging than those faced by the US and coalition forces in Mosul. -Hamas's tunnel system was far more sophisticated and extensive. Its system connected fighting positions, command facilities, weapons storage and movement routes beneath Gaza. Hamas had far longer to engineer Gaza specifically for war. ISIS had two years to prepare Mosul's defenses, whereas Hamas had approximately fifteen years to construct a defense-in-depth incorporating tunnels, above-ground fighting positions, IEDs, anti-armor weapons and booby-trapped buildings.That's an important distinction. -Gaza included an entire vertical dimension to urban warfare which included many high-rises. The IDF had to think simultaneously about what is inside a building, on its roof, in adjacent buildings, underneath the street and potentially underneath its own forces. Capturing the surface didn't necessarily mean controlling the terrain. -Population density made the battlefield extraordinarily constrained in Gaza. During the battle for Mosul, the international community sought to evacuate civilians. The UN eventually recorded one million civilian evacuations from Mosul to reception centers and camps. In Gaza, the international community FORCED THE CIVILIAN POPULATION to act as human shields for Hamas. -Israel entered Gaza knowing that more than 200 hostages seized on October 7 had been taken into the same underground/urban battlespace in which it was trying to destroy Hamas. -Hamas's capabilities were superior to those of ISIS in anti-armor warfare, drone operations while Hamas also employed the barbaric tactics for suicide attacks and IED warfare comparable to ISIS. -The force ratio in Mosul was enormously favorable to the attackers. West Point's Modern War Institute estimates roughly 100,000 coalition/Iraqi personnel against perhaps 3,000–12,000 ISIS fighters. Moreover, the United States itself wasn't conducting the overwhelming majority of the house-to-house clearing. Iraqi forces were. - Israel was fighting immediately adjacent to its own territory while Mosul was an expeditionary coalition operation in support of the Iraqi government. The United States was not simultaneously defending American cities a few miles from Mosul. -Israel is always forced to act while the world is waging a propaganda campaign against it. The world claims Jews have the right to defend themselves as long as they don't actually exercise said right.
