Awesome early anniversary present from @kirsch_brittany! One of the classics.

Important COVID-19 data to understand the potential for future outbreaks. Not even 10% in most localities/regions.
A number of seroprevalence studies (that look for antibodies to covid and assess the overall level of population exposure) have now been completed in both U.S. and abroad, and they suggest that outside of epidemic cities; overal infection rates and exposure remain relatively low.

Hi everyone, my brother's telemedicine startup is launching a web app meant to "avoid the ER and get care from home" in the age of COVID-19. This will help keep the pressure off our hospitals. Best of all, it's FREE. Please RT/spread the word! urgentcare.thirtymadison.com…

Unfortunately, I think the COVID-19 sphere depicted below will begin to dwarf its closest neighbors in the coming weeks/months. Let’s hope we can slow the growth before it starts looking more like the Spanish Flu.
Really beginning to understand that old quote: "There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen."

America, your government is incompetent. And this time, it really matters.

THREAD: On #Coronavirus, we may be entering a period of accelerating cases. The country could look very different over next two weeks. We’ll get through this, but need to take steps now to limit the scope and impact of virus. There are things we can do now to help ourselves. 1/n

Gates has been talking about this for years. Too bad none of the measures he mentions seem to have been implemented. youtu.be/6Af6b_wyiwI
Pay attention to this.
Dizzying day on coronavirus front. It's been clear since last Friday--Iran, Italy, South Korean--that COVID-19 is not "very much under control" in U.S. or anywhere else. @kakape and I have story. Hello mitigation. Containment, so yesterday. sciencemag.org/news/2020/02/…
"Human dendrites are special."
Brains are amazing. Our lab demonstrates that single human layer 2/3 neurons can compute the XOR operation. Never seen before in any neuron in any other species. Out now in @sciencemagazine. Congrats Albert, Tim @mattlark @YiotaPoirazi & CO science.sciencemag.org/conte…

It seems not all neurons (even those from homologous brain regions) are created equally between species. More specifically, human dendrites appear to have unique computational abilities arising from calcium-mediated action potentials (see paper for details).

In conclusion - this is so cool and I think we are only beginning to unravel the secrets of the brain!

Biology: multi-billion-year-old emergent organic nanotechnology.

No, that's Lothlórien. Mandalorians are a microscopic lifeform that resides in all living cells - without them, we would have no knowledge of The Force.
No, that's Delorean. Mandalorian is the realm of the elves in the LOTR books.
Thank you @EvanSandhoefner for illustrating this fascinating concept, but I just wanted to address the elephant in the room. That there are 257 billion neurons in the elephant brain is impressive, but it's important to consider that not all neurons are equal.

Please check out the paper (from the lab of Dr. Suzana Herculano-Houzel, who pioneered some of the neuron-counting methods that make this possible) about the elephant brain here: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article… And please correct me if I got anything wrong!

Whoops, I didn't even realize @suzanahh was on Twitter.
