First post nerves eeeek! Jane, Marie and I (Rachel) will be updating the Barnardo's Strategic Alliance page soon but we hope this will be a helpful space to get conversations going about the work we are fortunate enough to be supporting #firstpostnerves #northtyneside #barnardos

Listening to 2 young people from Care4Me in N. Tyneside. How many houses have you lived in? Up to 7 in the audience today. It's often 12 or more for these young people. No space or time to 'move home' just rapid change, new people, new place...#effectingchange @NTvirtualschool

Something VERY misunderstood is that refusal to accept help/to know that help is needed/to trust that someone can help/to trust someone FULLSTOP is a trauma response... 'independence' is not the goal where there has been trauma. Interdependence is.

A legacy I am still trying to overcome as an adult in trying to accepting support and feeling safe in relationships now…

When I was in care teachers often told me I was useless & not clever enough to go to uni. But yesterday I passed my doctoral degree & became Dr Kelly! Never let anyone tell you you aren't good enough! Thank you @NikkiLukePsych @ReesCentre @wellcometrust for believing in me! 🎓🥰

Really interesting ‘Lincolnshire social work practice to support attendance seminar’ organised by @IsabelleTrowler - hearing about how social workers are supporting school attendance - sounds like they are really effective ‘education champions’! @NAVSH_UK 🌟

We have a little chap in EYFS. He came to us on a managed move. He’s making so much progress. He had a hug with his TA today. He said, ‘At my old school, nobody loved me!’
I could weep.
All our children deserve to feel loved.
Please love them - they know.

"Don't shout, tell them off, or physically force them to go to school. Even though the situation may feel stressful, this is likely to increase their anxiety."
@YoungMindsUK we couldn't agree more. Yet scores of our parents are told to do say daily.
