The last known mention of Gilgamesh before his 19th century rediscovery comes from Theodore Bar Koni, an 8th century Assyrian Christian scholar.
Though corrupted, his name appears twice as the 10th and 12th king in a list of twelve rulers who reigned between Peleg and Abraham.
The Assyrians of Hakkari were masters of farming, building sophisticated irrigation channels to water their fields and crops. Early Western visitors to Hakkari in the 1800s were astonished by the ingenuity and effectiveness of their agricultural techniques.

These days in Iraq, everywhere you dig, you’ll find stashes of cash and gold hidden by corrupt officials.

In these countries, nobody is above the law - not even the king, queen, prime minister, or president. Any country where the law does not apply equally to the ruling family and their associates is a shithole country.

Aramaic is one of the oldest living languages. It was once the Lingua Franca of the Near East, initially spread by the Assyrians who adopted it as the Imperial language. Despite all attempts to erase them today, Aramaic is living proof of their continuity.

From 1991 to 2016, Assyrian Christians won court case after court case in northern Iraq.
Courts ruled their land had been stolen.
Not one ruling was ever enforced.
Not one.
130+ documented cases across the Kurdistan Region. 47,000 dunams seized in Duhok alone.
In Sarsing, KRG President Barzani personally asked Assyrians to host Kurdish families displaced by Anfal.
They agreed.
The Kurds never left.
118 Assyrian households remain. 2,000+ Kurdish homes.
On July 12, 2013, the Assyrian mukhtar of Rabatkeh confronted a Peshmerga lieutenant illegally building on Assyrian land at night.
He demanded official documents.
The lieutenant replied: "I am the government."
The police, when called, told the mukhtar to let him build.
In Ankawa, Erbil's only Assyrian town, the non-Assyrian population went from 5% to 20% in 11 years.
The airport was built on seized Assyrian farmland. Zero compensation.
In 2015, the Kurdistan Parliament passed a law specifically to address the theft.
Never enforced.
An Assyrian politician called it "a genocide, like that perpetrated by IS, only more slowly."
How can Assyrians return to their homeland, contribute to the economy of the KRG, if their basic property rights aren't guaranteed?
Assyrians & Kurds are brothers, live together & will continue to live side by side towards a prosperous, unified KRG.
Why are Assyrians peacefully protesting in Nohadra (Dohuk), Iraq? Because of the illegal seizure of Assyrian land by the Barzani family and their tribal supporters. Court rulings in favor of Assyrian landowners have been ignored, and the authorities have failed to enforce them.

Christians, mainly Assyrians, in Duhok held a protest against what they describe as continued encroachment on their land and property across the province, much of it in villages outside Duhok city rather than inside the city itself.
The protesters gathered outside the Duhok Governorate building, calling on the governorate to urgently put an end to the violations. Several Christian outlets and other media also reported that KDP security forces prevented some villagers, including people coming from the Nineveh Plains, from reaching Duhok. Videos circulating online appear to show groups protesting outside checkpoints after being denied entry.
The protest appears to have been driven mainly by supporters of the Assyrian Democratic Movement, whose strongest base is in Duhok. Most of the visible flags at the demonstration belonged to the movement. This is notable because some figures from the Zebari tribe have suggested that the protests may have been encouraged by Rayan Kildani’s Babylon Movement to stir unrest in the province. While Kildani may welcome the pressure on the KDP, the available visual evidence does not suggest that his movement played a leading role. The Assyrian Democratic Movement is a rival of Kildani’s Babylon Movement and has its own long-established base in Duhok.
The land dispute itself is not new. Over the past several years, several committees have been formed in both Erbil and Duhok to address the seizure of Christian land and property. Most, however, have failed to resolve the issue. In Erbil, for example, Assyrians have long claimed that land around Erbil International Airport and nearby areas was taken over by the KRG without proper compensation or consent.
In Duhok, several protesters told media outlets that large plots of land that were meant to be restored to Assyrian villagers after 1991 were never returned. Some claimed that parts of this land were instead taken over by prominent Zebari tribal figures, including uncles of Masoud Barzani. These allegations remain disputed, but they point to a deeper and longstanding grievance among Assyrian communities in the province: that promises made after the 1991 uprising to return land to its original owners were only partly fulfilled, while politically connected figures were able to consolidate control over contested areas.

Last year I personally handed @masrourbarzani land cases with court judgements that have been outstanding for years but no enforcement permitted by the local officials were enforced.
Promises were made that they would be finally be enforced.
10 months later, nothing has been enforced.
