Yes, It was a real issue but was never exploited all these years for a reason. Plus, news flash, the bounty paid is very standard. So why wasn’t it ever attempted after all these years? Well for starters, you’d need to set up hundreds of ridiculously priced offers no normal person would place, then fire off one specific insanely high payment. This couldn’t happen by accident. All of it would have been public in real time, looking super shady immediately and getting shut down. They patched it in a couple of days before anyone knew the details, and supply was never broken. To all the members of the Senate that voted against the CLARITY Act I leave this here with you all: “Before you start to revolutionize my business, I’d actually like to know that you know, my Business.” Senator Durbin, Josh Hawley and all the other uneducated Senators that voted against the Clarity Act just showed the country they still think crypto is a casino chip waiting for a taxpayer rescue. Crypto is not “too big to fail.” There is no central issuer, no hidden leverage book, and no overnight Fed window. When you hold Bitcoin, XRP or use self-custody, you hold the keys. No one bails you out because no one else controls it. That’s the opposite of what happened in 2008. Blocking the CLARITY Act didn’t protect taxpayers. It left 50 million Americans in a legal fog where scams thrive and honest builders leave the country. CLARITY would have done the exact things Durbin claims to want: split SEC/CFTC jurisdiction so rules are knowable, protect customer assets in bankruptcy, require real custody standards, and give developers a safe harbor instead of “regulation by lawsuit.” Uncertainty is what creates bubbles and retail wipeouts. Clarity killed that. The Social Security scare is theater. The trust funds are already legally limited to Treasuries. No serious version of CLARITY forced grandpa’s check into meme coins. Using seniors as a prop while voting against market-structure rules that would have added more investor protection is not “looking out for the little guy.” It’s looking out for the old banking system.
