Netanyahu's handpicked loyalist to head Israel's internal intelligence agency, Shin Bet, just lit a post-election firestorm by raising allegations of widespread vote buying among Arab-Israelis. Central Elections Commitee ordered Shin Bet to investigate 'severe suspicions' within a week. Entire Netanyahu government & media mouthpieces already stating as fact that Qatar sent millions of dollars to influence the election. Clear bid to (at least) delegitimze Arab votes and (in extremis) call entire election into question & allege it was stolen. This is serious.

"Netanyahu holds off Israel challenge in tense election" — Financial Times By @JamesShotter, @NeriZilber & Mehul Srivastava @FT — Thursday 29 October 🔍 The reporting focuses on the parliamentary arithmetic and coalition mechanics following the vote, highlighting the likelihood of protracted political deadlock as neither main bloc commands an outright majority. #Netanyahu #Israel #Eisenkot

According to exit polls and the vote count so far, neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nor his rivals are on course to win an absolute majority in Israel's election — signalling a potential deadlock. What happens next? ft.trib.al/3S8zd4O

Israel’s election is about more than left and right. On Israel Policy Pod, @ShiraEfron discusses with @mkoplow and @NeriZilber how concerns over institutions, the rule of law, and democracy could shape voters’ choices—including those who previously backed the governing coalition. Benjamin Netanyahu is known as a political 'magician' for his ability to conjure election victories against the odds. But Tuesday's Israeli election would be his greatest escape yet - 3 years after the Oct 7 attack and leading an unpopular far-right government. My dispatch from Sderot, a southern city hard hit by Hamas, that is still voting Bibi. ft.com/content/470fbc3a-fd2e…

Ahead of tomorrow's Israeli election, I went in search of an answer as to how Benjamin Netanyahu is even still in this - despite everything that has happened the last 4 years. Michael Carrick will doubtless pay the price with his job for this deserved defeat to an excellent Bournemouth side and another lifeless display by his Manchester United team. Some of his selections and tactics have been questionable, United were again so open in the centre. But Carrick was not responsible for recruiting Youri Tielemans, who lacks physicality and mobility (and Aston Villa haven’t missed him) and Andrey Santos, a Chelsea reserve.  Carrick was not responsible for the board’s damaging failure to strengthen at centre-back and left-back. Carrick was not responsible for his main striker Benjamin Sesko being injured and the board’s failure to provide him with cover. Carrick was not responsible for the club he loves being in the grip of co-owners like the Glazers whose priorities are focused more on business than the sport. The direction from the top has been negligible, arguably negligent. No real leadership. No expertise. Carrick may be out of his depth but many United fans sang his name during the painful demise to Bournemouth because they know he cares and they know the problems lie elsewhere. The Stretford End again sang in protest at the wretched Glazers. Noticeable that there were few songs in support of Bruno Fernandes. He is supposed to be captain, rallying the players, Footballer of the Year, Player of the Year, not arm-waver of the year, underachieving and complaining. Yet Bruno will be at United longer than Carrick.  Carrick was praised for United finishing third last season and getting in the Champions League. But he will doubtless go partly for his own failings and mainly the failings of others. And United will be trapped in this doom loop again. And again until the core problems are addressed in the boardroom - and the Glazers sell up - and flaws in the recruitment department. #MUFC #MUNBOU
