Without doubt, recency bias or excitement talking, the worst winds I've ever experienced, and by quite a margin. Genuinely hard to stand up at times, actual fear as things were blowing around, ferocious gusts. I won't be forgetting #StormGoretti in a hurry.
The people believing this bs story from one guy and a 30 second clip, when it's widely known Wetherspoon sells poppies, is just proving how fucking stupid some people in this country are 🤡

There are people who live amongst us that prefer this weather to 30 degree heat and the sun setting at 10pm, never ever forget that

The full force of #StormBoelo hits Largs. Businessowner Toni Dawson of Geraldo's said: "We are trying to protect our businesses from this disaster but we can't even get into our shops right now - god knows how much stock we have lost."

Incredibly close to UK October MSLP record with 948.1 hPa at Stornoway at 22Z Saturday, but just slightly north of the centre of #Boelo. It's likely a lower MSLP value would have been recorded had there been an observation station farther south on Harris.

As Storm #Boelo tracks across N/NW Scotland on Sat night, its central pressure is likely to be 946-949 hPa.
The current UK Oct low MSLP record is 947.9 hPa (Storm Amy 2025). There's a chance we could beat this... just one week after near-record high MSLP

Our teams have been working hard to respond to the impacts of Storm Austen, with almost 400 reports received. More than 300 have been attended to and completed.
Thank you for your patience while our teams work to make the roads safe.

Seeing quite a lot of minor structural damage following #StormAusten, mostly fallen roof tiles and guttering/pipes. Austen was significantly less severe/impactful than Goretti earlier this year, but probably on the higher end of a storm you'd expect to see every couple of years.
The storm isn't "brewing", it's already here and peaked for many.
There is no danger to life(red) Met Office warning.
Heavy rain isn't "a tiny bit of drizzle", nor are 70-80mph gusts.
Who actually said it's an abnormal storm or unusual in October?
A warning doesn't = unusual.

Lots of reports on local Facebook of trees down, roads blocked/closed, power lines down and minor structural damage, mainly roof tiles, across Cornwall this morning. Some schools have closed and bus, road, rail and air travel have all been impacted.

The National Grid are reporting "several thousand properties" are currently without power in Cornwall. We can see near constant 'power flashes' from electrical arcing or transformer damage here in Hayle which I'm sure is related.
#StormAusten
#StormAusten battering #Cornwall this morning. There's definitely going to be plenty of fallen trees blocking roads during the morning commute, the trees still in full leaf are taking a hit.
