The introduction of a visa requirement for Turkmen citizens traveling to Türkiye severely restrict migration, create heavy bureaucratic hurdles and costs, separate the families and disrupt the livelihoods of many Turkmens. Both Rashid Meredov and @WHO witnessed the death of thousands of Turkmens from #covid and kept silent. ILO publishes the findings from the ILO’s observance of the 2025 cotton harvest in Turkmenistan, with a particular focus on child labour and forced labour. Most concerningly, the observance documents a clear increase in children’s presence in cotton fields compared to 2024, despite strengthened legal prohibitions. Public employees continued to participate in cotton picking. Available data do not demonstrate a decisive overall change compared to 2024. Refusal to participate in forced cotton picking could entail social, economic or employment-related consequences.
