Betrayal of the "One Nation, Two States" Philosophy: The decision by Türkiye to revoke its 15-year-old visa-free travel regime for citizens of Turkmenistan in 2022, enacted at the explicit request of the Turkmen government, profoundly altered public relations and the lives of the Turkmen diaspora. Ankara chose security of the autocratic regime over the welfare of ordinary Turkmens, damaging Türkey's image as a "brotherly nation". Is the government taking what IMF is asking seriously? Why is this led by the deputy foreign minister? Not the Central Bank, not the minister of Finance and Economy, not Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers responsible for Economy and Finance? #Turkmenistan This might be an attempt to mitigate reputation (Aha, the autocratic regime cares what international organizations say!) but no hope for data transparency. The introduction of a visa requirement for Turkmen citizens traveling to Türkiye severely restrict migration, create heavy bureaucratic hurdles and costs, separate the families and disrupt the livelihoods of many Turkmens. ILO publishes the findings from the ILO’s observance of the 2025 cotton harvest in Turkmenistan, with a particular focus on child labour and forced labour. Most concerningly, the observance documents a clear increase in children’s presence in cotton fields compared to 2024, despite strengthened legal prohibitions. Public employees continued to participate in cotton picking. Available data do not demonstrate a decisive overall change compared to 2024. Refusal to participate in forced cotton picking could entail social, economic or employment-related consequences. These reported perceptions raise questions about the voluntariness of participation for some workers. Хлопковая страда в Туркменистане продолжается с централизованным принуждением к участию в ней работников бюджетной сферы. При этом отдельные чиновники используют кампанию для своего обогащения. В Марыйском и Лебапском велаятах собирать хлопок заставляют и солдат, проходящих срочную службу. Марыйские дехкане рассказали о хищениях техники и агрохимикатов, которые должны получать от государства, а также об убыточности своей работы. Не уродилась в этом году и сама культура: на некоторых полях хлопчатник сильно пострадал от сельхозвредителей.
