Poland is strategically vital to Europe and NATO. Let’s hope this all gets resolved very very soon. It’s a gift to Putin…

Today’s edition of the New York Post, a newspaper read in Republican offices in Washington and New York.
As Americans watch the evacuation operation in Oleshky, they must remember who bears responsibility for the countless deaths in Ukraine. Their blood is on the hands of Putin and the russians. To end this war, the United States must pressure russia, not Ukraine.
Three organizations – Razom for Ukraine, American Coalition for Ukraine, and Nova Ukraine – placed the following advertisement in the New York Post.
Translation of the advertisement:
“You are a humanitarian, sir, and I pay tribute to you for that,” – Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Putin.
Just days earlier, russia bombed a residential building in Zaporizhzhia, killing 17 people, including a mother and child who were holding hands.
Pressure russia, not Ukraine.

🇪🇪 ✊ Estonian Prime Minister refuses to tone down his rhetoric toward Russians: “I’m not going to hold back”
“Putin is a dictator who kills women and children. And he will continue to do so until he is forced to change course,” Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said.
Speaking to Delfi, he said he had received no direct requests from the US to soften his rhetoric. The politician added:
“Appeasing dictators only leads to humiliation, and freedom will ultimately be lost anyway.”
🇺🇸 The US has urged the Baltic states to “keep it down” and stop making harsh statements about Russia. Wait, what?
Reuters reports, citing sources, that US officials have approached Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in recent weeks.
Washington believes that strong rhetoric about the Russian threat could escalate tensions and undermine European security.
Among the remarks that reportedly caught Washington's attention was a claim by European leaders that Russia has been “cornered like a rat” by its war against Ukraine and is resorting to increasingly desperate measures.
Apparently, they've been asked not to say things like that anymore.
Fully agree. HMRC’s access is a nightmare waiting to happen…
An interesting story in the Times which highlights the foolishness of giving HMRC the power to take money straight out of people's bank accounts.
Tax lawyer Simon Evans only found out that he apparently owed HM Revenue & Customs money when it was extracted from his bank account.
Last month he got a letter from HMRC to say it had taken £2,300 out of his account because it claimed he had unpaid tax. “There wasn’t a dispute, we’d never heard from HMRC nor had our accountant who has handled our taxes for many years,” Evans said.
“It turns out that HMRC had sent letters to an old address in London that we haven’t lived at in years,” he said. “This is despite the fact that all of our Companies House and tax returns are up to date with our correct address and our accountant’s address."
“If we owed this money we would of course have paid it. We wanted to know if there had been an administrative oversight, but over several calls no one at HMRC could tell us what we owed, or from what period it was owed. Our accountant is still trying to get to the bottom of it."
This is what happens when you give an incompetent public sector bureaucracy the power to take money out of people's bank accounts.
Say what you mean Sarah, get off the fence…
THE MOST INCOMPETENT WAR IN HISTORY: SARAH PAINE ON TRUMP’S IRAN DISASTER
Dr. Sarah Paine, a leading historian of great-power conflict and strategy, delivers a blunt verdict on the Iran war. She calls it one of the most incompetent wars in human history. The decision ignored basic principles of assessment, put maximum costs on America itself, and left permanent damage to the country’s power and alliances. This is not hindsight—it is the predictable result of hubris meeting reality.
THE CORE VERDICT
➡️ “The Iran war is probably one of the most incompetent wars in human history.”
➡️ A competent war puts the costs on the enemy and minimizes them for yourself.
➡️ This one did the opposite.
THE COST CATASTROPHE
➡️ It trashed the US economy.
➡️ It blew the US alliance system.
➡️ Iran is hurting, but the collateral damage is taking down the world’s economy.
➡️ That transforms the United States from a partner into an annoyance—and for many, a primary adversary—because it is threatening their economies.
➡️ “That’s breathtakingly incompetent.”
THE STRATEGIC BLIND SPOT
➡️ Any serious assessment looks at the enemy’s strengths and your own weaknesses, plus everyone else who might intervene.
➡️ That was absent.
➡️ The first thing Iran would do is shut Hormuz. Narrow seas close in wartime. Ukraine already showed this with the Black Sea.
➡️ Shore artillery, mines, and other tools stop traffic. There is no mystery here.
➡️ The big naval base in Bahrain becomes unreachable. The fallback is Diego Garcia, 2,500 miles away in the middle of nowhere. “That would be a mess.”
THE HUBRIS THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE
➡️ The people making the calls are historically unqualified for the job. That makes them profoundly dangerous.
➡️ Type A hubris assumes all decisions that matter happen in the United States.
➡️ Type B hubris assumes being good at one thing makes you good at everything.
➡️ Half-court tennis: you only watch your own side and never study the other team.
➡️ The Iranians understand Americans far better than Americans understand them.
THE UNFEASIBLE OBJECTIVE
➡️ Trying to “solve” Iran with 90 million people was never realistic.
➡️ Nazi Germany had roughly 80 million and required an occupation force of about 1.5 million just to hold it after the war—before counting everyone else.
➡️ The goal was unattainable. Pursuing it guarantees overextension and a bad ending.
➡️ The lesson the world takes is simple: get a nuke. The war incentivized proliferation.
➡️ This was a pivotal error. The choices that existed before are gone and will not return. “We will never be the trusted partner ever again. It’s done.”
THE BOTTOM LINE
The Iran war did not merely fail. It maximized American costs, destroyed trust with allies, and handed every rival a clearer reason to treat the United States as a threat to their own prosperity. Competence would have contained the problem at affordable cost. Hubris chose the opposite.
This is what permanent strategic damage looks like.

NATO unveils new technologies for warfare
At the Ādaži military base in Latvia, NATO demonstrated for the first time the coordinated operation of drone swarms using 5G, artificial intelligence and digital data-sharing systems.
NATO Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation Admiral Pierre Vandier said the new technologies make it possible to integrate information and make faster decisions on the battlefield.
Latvian Army Commander Kaspars Pudāns stressed that these developments should now be applied in real-world operations rather than limited to testing.
The demonstration took place as part of NATO’s Digital Backbone eXperimentation (DiBaX) programme, which ran from October 19 to 30.
Its goal is to create a unified digital infrastructure that will allow the armed forces of NATO member states to exchange data and conduct joint operations.

“They disobeyed and, I would even say, are ignoring these requests,” Putin’s aide said.
Today, Ukraine resumed strikes on Russian oil refineries after a fairly long pause. We’ve all seen what happened in Novokuybyshevsk today.

NATO will not fight Russia the way Ukraine has been forced to fight.
Former NATO Military Committee Chairman Admiral Rob Bauer says that if Russia attacks a NATO member, the Alliance will deploy its air force and navy and conduct long-range precision strikes deep inside Russian territory.
NATO possesses strategic bombers, F-35s, F-22s, F-15s and F-16s, capabilities Ukraine was denied for years.
Bauer also stressed that Article 5 is ironclad. NATO's strategy is to block Russian forces, blunt their advance and, if necessary, break their military-industrial and logistical capacity.
Russia must understand one thing: attacking NATO means confronting the combined military power of the Alliance.

Tiptoeing onto British Transport Police territory...?
A groundbreaking new policing model aimed at making the Bee Network one of the safest public transport networks in the world has been launched across Greater Manchester.
The Transport Policing and Crime Command (TPACC) is a pioneering, first-of-its-kind approach that will bring Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) even closer together to tackle crime, antisocial behaviour and road safety issues across the region's transport network.
The command will effectively establish the Bee Network as GMP’s 11th policing district, bringing together up to 300 personnel – including new police officers – involved in keeping the network safe and providing greater reassurance to passengers.
This means efforts to keep passengers safe on buses, trams, active travel routes and roads will be strengthened, improving co-ordination in response to incidents and helping to reassure communities.
It will also incorporate the existing Roads Policing Unit within GMP that includes specialist functions such as the Central Ticket Office, the Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, the motorbike unit, the Commercial Vehicle Unit, the Serious Collision Investigation Unit and more.
