It never really backtests does it? Every correction we see these charts and people plotting the backtest line, and every single time this gets front run and the ones waitinfg for the additional 5-10% get left behind…

With the recent tech selloff, #NDX $QQQ is now showing striking similiarity with 1994-1997 in the dotcom runup. This was marked by high volatility and multiple 10-20% corrections, but ultimately these were buy-the-dip opportunities. Something to keep in mind.

Yesterday I posted: - QQQ down 6% in one day. Only 4 instances since the 2010s, all marked the stone cold bottom - VIX up 60% in one day. Only has happended 5 times EVER, all instances VIX dropped after a month - QQQ down more than 4% while VIX more than 40% in one session. Average of 5% higher after 21d Any one of these in isolation was not a signal, but there was solid confluence across all these (and more than I searched but didnt post) that indicated the move was abnormal and very likely could mark a bottom.

Yesterday's 4-sigma move in $QQQ threw off most of the market's forecasts and expectations, including the engine's below. The fact is taking into consideration yesterday's drop, the analogs have shifted quite a bit. Similar ranges include Covid's drop (in fact yesterday's QQQ and SMH drops were the biggest since Covid), 2014-2015 mid cycle crisis, among others. While some more downside is still possible, the updated consensus is for this massive englufing candle to force a range which eventually could break to the upside towards new ATHs. Additionally, yesterday I shared a bunch of setups in Conditions like VIX up 60% in a day or QQQ down 6% in a day, and most of the times, especially recent ones, marked the bottom for equities. I'll keep tracking and updating this based on the latest information. But it does seem like the worst is behind us at this stage.
$QQQ back to early August levels. Historically, this kind of failed breakout and re-testing of previous lows tends lo lead higher. Also, bears are gay.
