Senator Natasha’s FMC Ihima Bill Passes Second Reading at House of Representatives The legislative process towards the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, has recorded a significant milestone following the passage of a bill sponsored by Distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan through its second reading at the House of Representatives. The bill, identified as Senate Bill 521, seeks to amend the Federal Medical Centres Act to provide for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Ihima, Kogi State. It was listed among the bills scheduled for second reading in the Order Paper of the House of Representatives for Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The proposed medical institution is intended to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and bring specialised medical services closer to the people of Kogi Central and neighbouring communities. If enacted into law, the establishment of the facility could improve access to tertiary healthcare, reduce the burden of travelling long distances for specialised treatment, create employment opportunities for healthcare professionals and support the development of medical services in the region. Reacting to the development, Senator Natasha H Akpoti-Uduaghan described the legislative progress as an encouraging step towards advancing healthcare delivery and addressing the medical needs of her constituents. “This is an important milestone for Kogi Central. Our people deserve improved access to quality healthcare, modern medical facilities and specialised services closer to home. The progress of this bill gives us renewed hope that this important aspiration can become a reality,” the Senator said. She added that her commitment to the initiative reflects the need to pursue legislation that addresses the practical concerns of the people and promotes sustainable development across the district. “Our responsibility as representatives is to champion initiatives that improve the lives of our people. Access to quality healthcare is fundamental to human dignity and community development. We will continue to pursue this process diligently and work towards the successful passage of the bill and its eventual assent by Mr President,” she stated. The Senator reaffirmed her commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen public healthcare infrastructure, expand access to essential medical services and improve the overall welfare of the people of Kogi Central. While the advancement of the bill marks progress in the legislative process, further parliamentary procedures remain before it can become law. Following completion of the applicable legislative stages, the bill would be presented to the President for assent in accordance with constitutional requirements. The Office of Distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan appreciates the continued interest and support of the people of Kogi Central as efforts towards improving healthcare infrastructure and access to specialised medical services continue. Congratulations to the people of Kogi Central on this important legislative milestone. He is a rare gem, a jewel of inestimable value 💎
One thing that makes Bukola Saraki worth considering for Nigeria’s presidency in 2031 is his ability to build bridges across political divides. As Senate President, he led a chamber where party differences could easily have stalled progress. Yet, his leadership brought together people with competing interests to work within the same institution. That experience matters. Nigeria is too diverse to be governed by division, and too challenged to afford endless political battles. We need a president who can engage opponents, negotiate differences and build a coalition around the national interest. The next president must not just know how to win power; he must know how to bring a divided country together. That is a conversation worth having about Bukola Saraki and 2031.

Dr. Bukola Saraki and Senator Saliu Mustapha at a recent event. If there is one state the PDP is confident of winning in 2027, it is Kwara State. If there is one senatorial district the PDP can count on, it is Kwara Central.

21 years ago today, my dear friend and brother, Alhaji Waziri Kyari Mohammed, was among the 117 people we lost in the Bellview plane crash. He was Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation at the time and had been in Lagos on official duty before boarding that flight to Abuja. He served his country right to the end. Those of us who were close to him knew what a good man he was and how much more he had to give. That is why his passing was such a great loss and why we still miss him so dearly. It pains me that the memorial built in Lisa for him and the other victims has been neglected for years. The people of Lisa, the Ogun State community where the plane came down, have repeatedly called for it to be restored, and I add my voice to theirs. Families who go there to visit the graves of their loved ones should not find them taken over by bush. May Allah (SWT) continue to retain for my brother a place in Aljannah Firdaus and comfort his family and the families of all other victims of that air crash. Ameen.

Saraki knows when to come out open and when to stay back in politics. His comeback in Kwara should be studied. It is obvious now that he will deliver PDP Governor next year and some NASS. If he plays it right he will be at the forefront of North Central permutation in 2031.

When I celebrated Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti’s 100th birthday in May, I wrote, “100 years, and not a stain on his name.” Today, as the nation mourns his passing, I return to those words. To live so long, with so much responsibility, and retain the respect of generations is a remarkable achievement. We were fortunate to have him with us for a century. Still, saying farewell to an elder of his standing is painful. His life reminds us how much a good name matters, and the care we must take to preserve it. On behalf of my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Fasoranti family, Afenifere, and the Government and people of Ondo State. I hope his loved ones find comfort in the affection and respect with which Baba will be remembered across our country.

Whether as Governor of Kwara or leader of the 8th Senate, Saraki has left amazing legacies that Nigerians can never stop talking about. I still remember the attention that Aviation School, which is still standing today, got; it put Kwara on the international map. Shonga Farms, KWASU... had everyone talking. Saraki led the only Senate that reflected the interest of the average Nigerian by checking excessive borrowing, upholding the principle of separation of powers, and passing many bills that would improve everyday life. I write this with deep nostalgia. Even those who don't like him agree that he remains Nigeria's best Senate President. Come 2031, I hope to see him hold office again because he is one man who is beyond capable of steering Nigeria in the right direction.

The North Central stands as the best region to be considered for the presidency in 2031. Bukola Saraki, a two-term Governor of Kwara State and the best Senate President ever, stands out as a respected political figure. His vast leadership experience and knowledge of governance will take Nigeria forward if given the opportunity. Moreover, being a Muslim from the North Central gives him a strong appeal across the North. The North Central deserves a chance.

On 20 October 2014, the World Health Organization declared Nigeria Ebola-free. We recorded 20 cases and lost 8 lives, and the world took notes on how we contained it. On 20 October 2026, twelve years to the day, a new imported case was confirmed in Abuja. The patient is in isolation and health authorities are tracing 44 contacts. We have beaten this before, and we can do it again. Here is how each of us can help: • Know the signs. Sudden fever, weakness, headache, muscle pain and sore throat, often followed by vomiting and diarrhoea. Early symptoms can look like malaria, and bleeding does not always happen. • Know how it spreads. Ebola is not airborne. It passes through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of someone who is sick with it or has died from it. • Speak up early. If you develop a fever after travelling from an affected country or after contact with someone suspected to have Ebola, call NCDC free on 6232 (24/7) and tell health workers where you have been. • Check before you share. In 2014, a salt-water “cure” spread across social media, sent at least 20 people to hospital and cost two lives. • Don’t stigmatise. Fear makes people hide symptoms, and hidden cases are how outbreaks grow. There is no approved vaccine or specific treatment for this strain yet, so early reporting is our best protection.
