If you go to bed on election night and don't know who won a midterm congressional race, that's normal. And if you wake up the next morning and find that a candidate who was behind hours earlier has since pulled ahead, that's normal, too. (via @PolitiFact) to.pbs.org/4zqnWBa

Members wore red at the company awards ceremony this week to show pride in our colleagues’ work. Do leaders share that pride? AP execs are undercutting our journalism while honoring the best of our journalists.
We call for a reinstatement of our expert photo and video producers.

🚨NEW: Journalists at two Ohio newspapers owned by USA TODAY Co. are withholding their bylines from stories featuring an AI bot that shares inaccurate information. The tool violates the company’s standards of requiring a “human in the loop,” raising editorial integrity concerns.

I’ll be joining the @BaltimoreBanner next week as a reporter.
I’m looking forward to joining an independent outlet that’s been hiring journalists who are accomplished but also adaptable enough to embrace new ways to engage with the communities and beats they cover. I’ll be based in my home county (Montgomery), where The Banner has been making inroads as it builds its brand in the capital region, while its parent nonprofit has expanded its reach by acquiring the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
It’s been an interesting,: slightly unnerving—but ultimately really gratifying— period since I resigned from The Baltimore Sun in June over concerns about the paper’s journalism. I’ll never forget the support I received from journalists and readers.
My resignation post on X tapped into anxiety over losing independent reporting and voices across the country that many of us once took for granted. We know better now.
I start at The Banner on Nov. 2.

Helping edit stories for a living means I'm perpetually upset when people get "further" and "farther" mixed up in casual conversation
No lie, if you got the ones that also allowed for A/V inputs so you could hook up consoles and other tech to them, these were no-brainer bargains back in the day before streaming services and smartphones.

The @UofMaryland Athletics Department has agreed to First Amendment training with FIRE after two student journalists were reported to campus police for “suspicious activity” while trying to interview @umterps football players.
Student reporters should be able to do their jobs in public spaces without fear of unnecessary police encounters.
We appreciate Maryland Athletics’ willingness to address these concerns. Public universities — including their athletic departments — have a duty to protect press freedom, not intimidate those exercising it.
For @testudotimes, @JudeWilkenfeld and I were outside Jones-Hill House trying to get players to comment. An athletics staffer took pictures of us, and a police dispatch was called for suspicious activity; a cop and 2 cop cars pulled up, and officers ID’d us and asked us to leave.

Earlier, I tweeted a video from an Abdul El-Sayed town hall. I deleted that tweet because it was a violation of CBS News standards. I apologize.
